Having Baby in the Bath
HiThis is one for everyone to think about,
no 1 natural birth at hospital ---extreme pain for 2 hours only though
no 2 induced no epi natural birth ----worst birth ever nearly died-- delivered at 4cm--son was blue for 2 weeks
no 3 This was the miracle
At around 36 weeks I was planning my stay at the same hospital Milnerton Medi clinic for the 3rd time and was stressing like mad as the previous birth was so horrific.
That day a lady came into my business and explained that she had a water birth at home and that I should try it.
It is something I always wanted to do but my Gynae was totally against it as he is also against screaming in a private hospital
have you ever!!!ANyway I got hold of a midwife that same day and told her I wanted a home birth at home, she came over and she told me that I had a week to go, give or take
I was very excited I thought if anything goes wrong I am only 2 minutes away from the hospital, but nevertheless did not tell my doctor. The following weekend I decided that this baby girl must come out, so by the advice of a Aunty so and so, I drank a bottle of castor oil mixed with warm milk, and then went to sleep.
ABout 4 hours later I woke with most intense cramps and sat on the toilet and crapped my lungs
out, water started to drip out and then I decided to call hubby who screamed at me and told me to phone the midwife( he was not happy about the castor oil story)
I phoned her and guess what she was on holiday miles away
I started crying and went back to the room, out of no where my husband rushed in and started running a bath and said you are getting your waterbirth,
Anyway cut the story short, after a sip of panando syrup and about 20 minutes of threatening my husband with death
I felt the baby lodge down, he actually did a internal and said the baby was right there, I though ok Doctor " whatever" and he jumped in the water with me, put a towel in mouth and told me to push, she was out in one plops, he put her on my chest, and she warmed up beautifully
he cut her cord with a kitchen scissors and pegged it with 2 washing pegs from the line, I fed her, had a cup of hot chocolate and went to bed, I had no tears, trauma, and baby was perfect.
Moral of the story we are designed to give birth, being more comfortable around your own things makes it easier, I would recommend a home birth a million times over a hospital birth, and always get a second opion if your doc says you need a ceasar half the time it is crap, they told me that to, I had 3 natural deliveries

Re: Having Baby in the Bath
HI
The strange thing was my husbands best friend that was soposed to come over and look after our boy was strangely driving past out area at 1 in the morning, so he arrived at our house in 5 minutes,
My husband let him in ( by the way our other baby of 1 year slept through the whole thing)
My hubby took the baby from me and was showing Andrew and I sat in the bath and cleaned up a bit and then the placenta just plopped out, I just tugged on it a bit and helped the placenta come out completely,
We all had a cuppa and then went back to sleep, it was amazing...
Then next day we went to our Hospital just to get a proper clamp for the ambilical cord, when they realised that I had the baby they started running around like mad and tried to book me in, for what I dont know, anyway I was getting furious as was my hubby, I said that all I wanted was a clamp, they would not give me one unless I booked in,
So we left, we went to several pharmacies and no one will give you a clamp, it is so wierd, the last pharmacy we went to was N1 city Hospital, my hubby lied and said I was at home in Labour with the Mid wife and she forgot her clamp and he needed one desperatly, they then gave him one, she cost exactly R2.50.
Anyway a few days later I went to my Gynae for a check up and to check if the baby was fine, my doc was furious, he attacked my husband and told him he was really irrisponsible and looked for all the negatives, and because I am o- that he hoped my hubby took all the placenta out and also let the cord bleed out, as I could get septic,
God was on our side, because when hubby cut the cord he got such a fright that he pegged the wrong side and it squirted blood all over the place, so it did bleed out .
Doc did a scan to see if there was any placenta left inside, he was dying to find something wrong, guess what no placenta left inside..
Baby was perfect, no one could find a thing wrong with what we did, although they tried to, I have never had a ounce of problems with Alexis and I am sure that is to the very relaxed no stress birth,
ALSO no one touches your baby except you and your husband, I have seen them at the hospitals man handling the babies and bathing them, This baby is new to the world and just needs a few days to adjust without every body proding and poking them,
I did not even bath Alexis for the first 3 days, I let the natural oil and mucus that was on her skin settle into her skin and she was happy and content.
The thing is that alot doctors today love to take short cuts and make women feel like they are unable to give birth without the intervention of hospitals and doctors, but we are designed for it and we are good at it, dont let docs frighten you, it is sore but well worth it esp if you have done it on your own without caesars and epis,
I would advice a midwife though just incase, I was just unlucky mine was away, it is the most empowering feeling in the world

Re: Having Baby in the Bath
I don't think I would do it without a midwife but I always said I want a waterbirth, but I guess that wouldn't be possible due to the area we live and of course hubby would faint so no help there.
