Allergic reaction / vomiting

Post by Zee on Thu 11 Mar 2010 - 10:31

Hi Ladies,

I had such a rough night with Jared last night - Vomiting

I think it might've been an allergic reaction to something.

He ate, Cauliflower with Pasta and cheese sauce for Lunch and Baby Marrow for Supper. At about 21:30pm he started fussing in his cot so I gave him a little formula as I thought he was hungry (he hardly drank anything before bedtime).
Just as I was about to put him down, he vomited his food out. (Adult puke, not milk). I thought a wind caused it at first. I quickly bathed him again as he smelt awful and while dressing him he vomited again, 15min later AGAIN, a total of 5 times and crying hysterically.
A lot of it was the baby marrow but I am not sure if babies can be allergic to that or cauliflower.

Do you think it was the Pasta? Doesnt Pasta contain wheat?

By 11:00pm the poor little thing was exhausted, I gave him a little Rooibos tea after phoning Mediclinic, and didnt hear a peep for the rest of the night. This morning he is a little 'ball of fire', giggling and talking as if nothing had happened last night.

Can only think it was the pasta? :confuzzed

Shame well I am glad he's all better

He hasnt had Pasta before nor egg! It was kiddies pasta shapes. Is there a certain brand I am suppose to use?

I started it on monday, that is why I am confused.
I did read it takes a day for the body to build up antibodies to a certain allergy, so maybe that is what happened.

For the sauce I used his formula and a little bit of normal milk, not much and Maizena instead of Flour.
He has had cheese before but not a lot at all - 1x tablespoon in sauce. This time I added quite a lot of cheese as per the recipe I used.

Eileen, now that you mention it, I suppose it couldve been the egg too!

I think I will wait until he is a year old before I try pasta again. And am too scared to even try the baby marrow or cauliflower now although he has had both in the passed and was fine.

Oh well......back to boring food again Bang head

There is a bad gastro going around hun, but vomitting most likely would be from the egg in the pasta and not the wheat. Wheat allergy usually presents itself with a rash first.

Zee don't panic too much. Does the box of pasta say wheat free, egg free, gluten free?

Do a process of elimination... give him one of each thing from the other night on it's own with something you know he is ok with. That way you can narrow it down. The more you introduce him to now the better.

Yeah I wopuld also say the egg rather that the wheat but if he's had it from Monday then it's strange that it only starts now?

I think it might have been a little bug, those 5 minute tummy bugs I call them

Thanks Eileen, will try that and nope it did not say Free of Egg, Wheat, Gluten. Also dont want to stop introducing things so will try the process of elimination.

Thanks Honey, couldve been a bug, we always seem to run away with our imagination. Our kiddies always keep us on our toes.
