New twin mommy but "maybe golden oldie for some"
Hi everyone, I am new on this forum, but i post on Fertilicare as well. Most of you will know me as "Pokkel"
Was invited here by our dear friend Stardust this morning - and i must say i am so glad to see so many familiar names!!
For those who dont know me: In short - I fell pregnant with my twins after walking the infertility road for 6 years - after many IUI's and eventually my 3rd IVF. (Falling pregnant was an absolute miracle since medically i could not fall pregnant at all anymore)
My twin girls are now 5 months and 1 week. They are big and healthy and so far they are bringing more and more joy to our lives every day. They drink well, sleep well, grow well - and i can not complain about anything except the fact that they just grow up TOO QUICKLY!!
I am planning to start with solid foods in 2 weeks time - did not want to start with the solids too soon. Would like to know your opinion about "when you started on solids" and what made you decide that "its time".
Take care everyone, and a hug&kiss to all your little angels.

Hi there!
Goodness, it good to hear your babas are doing so well. I know what you mean with them growing up to quickly! Mine are 8 months now, and utterly adorable. I started around 5 months, as they were ready and tolerated it very well. It also helped a lot with the sleeping through. I started slowly and worked up to 3 meals by 6 months. We started wiht cereal then veggies and fruit. Mine are looked after by a nanny who cooks all their food herself, luckily.

Hi Page / Pokkel - I also posted on FC and remember you - our babies were born quite close together (mine are about to be 6 months). Welcome to the forum - it's great to have a special section dedicated to twins! Your daughters are beautiful!
My babies started at 4 months with some rice cereal (on advice from the Paed). I then introduced veggies & fruit and now we have just moved onto 3 solid meals a day. After 6 months I'll introduce some protein. My daughter is very fussy and not overly keen on her bottle but seems to love the solids - so I've been pushing the solids. Paed said it was fine.
I think you need to be led by your babies - they'll tell you how much and when etc. From what I understand up untikl 6 months they are just getting used to the tastes and different texture so milk is still their main source of nutrition anyway.

Hi Page
So glad to see you joined the forum.
It's me stardust from FC, here I am just Zel or Zellie. I am sure you are going to like these girls.
I love the photo, they are beautiful! I still can't believe you delivered them at 38 weeks, you did an awesome job.
Still wanted to ask you. While sleeping when you were preggies, did you feel like you were squashing one of the twins? I am asking because when I lay on my left side twin A starts to perform and then when I turn onto my right side twin B starts to perform. I feel like I am hurting them.
Have a lovely day
Luv
Zel

Re: New twin mommy but "maybe golden oldie for some"
HI Page
Great to see you here, I cannot believe how big your girls are. They look lovely but so different. Pokkel I am Willow from Fertilicare here I am Kerryw. Nice to hear from you again. My boys are Also 5 months and about 1 week now. How big are your girls now? How were your first months, mine were a night mare with colic and reflux but they are soo much better now.
my boys weigh 6kg and 7kg (or a little more as they were weighed a while ago). We have been giving them cereal and fruit for a little while now as the paed recomended it. C loves his fruit he acctually maons at one if you do not put the food in quick enough. Kian will eat but is not so taken with it as Connor although I tried them with Avo and Kian loved it.
I read the only foods you should avoid are the same ones you avoided in pregnancy - eggs shellfish soft cheeses .... I started with the Olli stage one foods as I found I could not puree at home as fine as they do so I will start with my own food as soon as they are ready for more rough puree.
there was a thread in Mamma's room about the weaning stages I think it was Lilly who posted it?
Enjoy the mess is something else.

Re: New twin mommy but "maybe golden oldie for some"
Hi Pokkel (Page)
It is me (Mella). Dit is so leke om jou hier te sien en nou weet ek ook bietjie wie almal van FC af kom met die ander name
JOu kleintjies is pragtig en het so groot geword!!!
I only started mine with solid from 5months 3 weeks. I decided to start with fruit, then veggies but the one doesn't like the veggies I need to mix it with fruit and they vomit the rice cereal so I bought sime Purity Mabela this weekend and mix it with apple Olli and they love it. Mine is still only on two solid feeding a day. Monitiné lost alot of weight in hospital so she have to gain a bit more and the milk is more important.
I hope you enjoy it here, we are a bunch of lovely ladies on here and support each other alot!!
Love

Re: New twin mommy but "maybe golden oldie for some"
Hey Everyone, so nice to see so many familiar names - i feel like family already
Zellie/stardust - Dont worry about the lying down and squashing your angels. They are VERY well protected inside that belly of yours. And believe me - they find a way to be comfortable in that little small space. My one twin was lying head up against the ribs around 30 weeks, and on my next visit she was head down in the pelvis (chatting to her sister who were also head down) On my next visit.... guess what she turned around again and were head up again!! So although it feels that there are not much space and you might be squashing them - they have lotsa padding in there!!
kerryw/willow - my first 3 months were good! i had an awesome support structure with hubby helping out with everything and then my other SECRET that i must add was the book "BABY WISE". I followed the baby wise principles/routiines right from the start and it worked perfectly for me. My girls were in a 3 hour routine right from the 2nd day at home, and i woke my girls up for their feeds if they were not awake for feed. I tried to always have their wake time, sleep time and feed time the same so that way when they do go to sleep time i had a good 2 hours between each feed to take a nap myself or do something in the house. They very quickly learned about daytime and night time and adjusted well to sleep longer hours during the night. At the moment (5 and half months) they get their last feed around 7:30/8:00 in evening and wake up between 5 and 6 the next morning) . So i believe in Baby wise - it truely works!
My girls were born weighing 2,4 and 2,7 and they are now probably around 7 and 7,5. I was lucky in the sense that my girls did not really have colic and bad reflux. The had the normal cramping and posetting, and only now my one girl tends to have a bit of reflux - but nothing serious. They still eat and sleep very well.
I am fortunate to be partially working from home so i hope i dont miss anything cute, since they are getting more adorable by the day!
I am thinking of introducing solids in 2 weeks time when they are around 5 months and 3 weeks. I bought a box of the Olli cereal and can already picture who they will enjoy those little spoons coming closer to their mouths. A whole new adventure.
The only thing that did not work out so well for me was the proper breastfeeding. I would have loved to breastfeed more, but i did not "manufacture" enough milk in the beginning , and at the end of the day my girls got "a little bit" of breastmilk daily.
If i think back now i blame the nurses in hospital since they told me before i left hospital that i will not have enough milk for 2 babies, and need to supplement. So we bought formula and although i tried to breastfeed them on the breast i had this mental block that they are not getting enough milk , so gave them formula. So i stimulated less so i had less breastmilk .....
When i decided after 2 weeks that i want to really try and get my milk supply up it was almost too late. I got hold of a fantastic BF and lactational specialist/doctor and she tried to help me and also gve a Medela double breastpump to see if i can get my supply up, but i could never get the supply more than 50ml's per pump session.
But at least i had some breast milk.......Plus/Minus 10% of their daily feed were breastmilk up to the age of 4 months. And then i dried up
Glad you are all doing well, i will chat to you all soon!
