I'm a mommy now :)

Post by Zellie on Thu 22 Oct 2009 - 21:39

Hi Twin mommies

I just want to officially post my 1st tread in the twins room Very Happy I waited so long for this, he-he.

Here is Abigail - Weighed 1.8kg and was 41cm in length. She was born 1st and had no problems, only in NICU to pick up some weight and establish feeding (she is now drinking all her bottles)

This is Clarice - Weighed 2.1kg and was 48cm in length. She needed oxygen for 24hrs and also got an infection which is now almost cleared up. Even though being the biggest she is still struggling with sucking.

I will post my birth story over the weekend.

If any of you can please give me advice on how to produce more breast milk please share it with me. I am so desperate to breastfeed both but only express 25-30ml of colostrum every 3 hrs and it's already day 6. :Sad

Have a lovely evening ladies

Luv
Zellie

Congrats again and Welcome to the twin world Zellie!!

Let your Pead or gynea pescribe you some Eglynol. It helps to produce more milk.

Your girls are beautiful and are they still in NICU?
Zellie eventhough Clarice is the biggist she can be the one struggling the most because she got more of everything in the womb and sometimes it can relate to health problems after birth!!

I am so happy that you are ok and they are doing well. Pls shout if you need any help, I live close to you and are more than willing to help you if you need help or advise!! Good luck with the road again, not gonna be easy but it is such a wonderful experience and twins are the best thing in the world. Enjoy every minite with them!

Love

HI Zellie

Congratulations on your gorgeous girls they will do fine. 25-30ml 3 hourly on day 6 is fine. They will not be drinking much more yet.
Definilty get some eglonyl and are you drinking jungle juice? it is a good way to make sure you drink enough. Just keep doing what you are doing, expressing for 15 min 6 times per day. Also contact laleche league they are the experts and help alot. Even if you never produce enough every bit counts. I think there are a number of moms with twins who alternated feeds one milk one formula.

The most important thing with breastfeeding is to never give up I have heard that it takes 2 weeks to really get established. I expressed for 2 months even though at max I produced 30ml per express. And from the early weeks it did increase. But I belive I helped my boys with the little that I did produce.

Congrats Zellie, Your girls are beautifull!!!!!
Don't worry to much about the sucking. It will come right. Bjorn also struggled alot with the sucking even though he was bigger, but just one day he mastered it. I think at his 37w mark.
Just keep on doing what you are doing with the breastmilk. Keep on expressing every 3 hours and eglynol. I never expressed more than 40ml everytime and could only feed Carmen breastmilk. But it did make a difference in the first few weeks.
And once again welcome in the twin world

HI Zellie

Congrats on your beautiful daughters - what a miracle! My dr prescribed Eglynol for me and it works very well. Also a bit of a "happy pill" so keeps the baby blues at bay! Don't worry too much about your milk - mine only came in properly after a week. Even then - I did not have enough to feed both babies. Have you got a good Breast Pump? I hired the Medela Electric Plus from my clinic - it did both breasts at once and I could not have coped without it.

Good luck - look forward to reading your birth story!

Hey Zell, your girls are gorgeous!!!
And they are real fighters so they will be perfectly fine.

As for the Bfeeding - contact Laleche as soon as possible. I can give you a ladies name in Garsfontein as well who is a doctor and LaLech lactation specialist. She also hired me the Medela double breastpump and i would not have coped without it (just as Wendy said).
Unfortunately i did not do it early enough (well this is what i believe) so i never managed to make more than 40ml per feeding which were never enough. But i was adamant that my girls must get breastmilk so i gave them the 40 mils a day and the rest was formula.
Eglonol helps and jungle juice as well - but it did not help so much for me.
At the end i managed to express my 40mils morning and evening for 4 months, and i am proud that i managed to do that!!
Try your best, that will be the best that you can give your girls, and NEVER give up!
