Post by DJMommy on Thu 29 Oct 2009 - 6:51

Hi, how much weight did you put on during your pregnancy and which trimester did you put the most on? And when did you start showing?

Re: Pregnancy question

Total 18kgs, the most in the first trimester (I was very nauseous, threw up all the time but it helped to eat so I was constantly grazing!) Apparently 20kgs is the ideal weight to put on for a twin pregnancy! It sounds terrible but I lost everything by 4 months post birth.

Started to show before 12 weeks, in maternity wear by 12 weeks (but I had a previous pregnancy).

How is it going??

HI

I did not put on enough and that was likely linked to my reduced BM supply. I put on 12kg but struggled to eat in the last trimester my stomach was squashed. I put on the most in the 2nd trimester. The theory is by 20 weeks you must have put on 10kg.

I took for ever to show it was driving me mad! but then it happened quickly from about 16 weeks. but everyone is different, it also depends how your uterus lies. I was never very big I got tired of all the comments about you are too small for twins. I keep trying to tell people they dont take up twice the space.

Hi Eve I put on 13kg and started to show in the 2nd trimester. I was still wearing some of my clothes by the 5th month. I was not skinny to begin with. I lost all of my weight and a few extra by 10 weeks and am still loosing. I am thinner now than before I fell pregnant.

Hi Eve

At 22 weeks I gained 6kg and by the end at 36 weeks I gained a total of 16 kg. I picked up the most after 28 weeks.

Tomorrow will be 2 weeks since their birth and I already lost 12 kg ... but I think a lot was water retention, I looked like the Oros character and my feet looked the worst. :Embarassed

I already started wearing maternity pants at 8 weeks and maternity tops from 22/24 weeks on.

I know twins was not the plan but you will come to love your expanding belly. I don't have advice yet regarding twins but I'll be here for you.

Take care

I picked up 18kilos most also after 28 weeks but I was very swollen from 21 weeks and had alot of water. 4 days past c-section I lost 13 kilos so don't worry too much about it.

By 12 weeks I was showing and in maternaty tops already from 8 weeks. I was HUGE at the end swollen and look like a pig (not joking at all). I wore the same pants till about 30 weeks then my tummy was lowering very fast!, demin till about 18 weeks. Edgars have nice maternity pants, not expensive and you can adjust it as your belly grows.

Re: Pregnancy question

Hi Eve

By 34 weeks (deliver date) I had put on 17kg. I have a fairly small frame - am bout 1.63m tall. I felt nauseous in the first trimester so ate a lot to get rid of the nausea. I started to show by about 14/15 weeks and put on most weight in the 2nd trimester. Nearly all the weight fell off within the 1st month after the birth. The 2kg remaining is the result of all the chocolate I've been eating and has settled happily on my bum and thighs. With summer approaching I am now desperately trying to lose it! During my pregnancy I had to eat little and often because I felt full quickly.

HI

Eve you may be retaining water which can happen at any time during pregnancy. Just keep your feet up and watch it, if you are worried contact your gynae.

But I am afraid you need to put on lots of weight for those growing babies and if you are used to being skinny it is a huge mental shift. They should have support groups for this...

Ja I agree! I actually went to a dietitian to help me gain the weight I needed, and being only 1.61cm tall let me tell you I looked like a whale at the end! However, I had loads of milk for the twins so it was worth it, and now it is all gone so all's well that ends well!

Eve your weight is really the last thing to worry about. All the twin mommies will agree that after birth you loose it so fast that you are waisting time and energy worrying about it!!

You need to eat to give them enough food and the things they need but also eat healthy and freguently, it really helps. You are so small, you will feel it right away

Honestly I am really worrying about you! Are you ok?

Hi Eve, I gained about 15kg and most of mine was first trimester. I was very skinny to begin with. I am very tall 1.76m and I did regret not putting on more weight so that my babies could be bigger. I am now struggling with the last 3kg. Don't worry about the weight gain!!

Re: Pregnancy question

Post by Page on Wed 4 Nov 2009 - 20:39

Hey, i had an almost similar experience than most of the other moms. I was not particularly big before i fell preggies and i struggled to gain weight.
At the end i think i definitely did not gaiin enough. I put on 10kg and towards the end i was drinking and eating everything i see just to gain more weight. I started gaining weight only after 20 weeks, and started wearing maternity pants around 15 weeks, my bum only really started growing after 25 weeks. I also started getting worried that i am having twins and not showing as some moms with only one baby...

I lost everything almost straight after birth and weighed less than when i fell preggies. Gained a couple of kilos again in the last months..... :Unsure

ITs very important to gain weight since then your body have enough reserves to make enough milk for your babies. Today i believe its because of the lack of weight gain that i had too little milk....

Good luck Eve!! And enjoy the weight gain!
