Corne's Birth Story

Post by Cmom on Wed 4 Nov 2009 - 16:00

On the 29th of August we had to be at the hospital at 5:00 to report for the C-sec. Oh what a night, hubby was up every half an hour and I of course could not sleep. My sister came over to sleep at my house so she could look after Claudia while we were at hospital. Well at four we couldn’t stay home anymore and the excitement just took charge. We got in the car and arrived at the hospital at 4:20 only to discover that other people who were also scheduled for a c-section arrived at 3:00 already. But I was first on the theatre list so at 7:50 the anesthetist came around and shortly after that I was wheeled into theatre. I was so scared of the spinal block, I started shivering. But it was nothing, I did not feel a thing and it worked the first time. Shortly after that my legs was numb and it was the funniest feeling in the world I tell you – not being able to feel your legs.

After the spinal block the next fear kicked in – if I would feel it if the dr started opening up. Well I could not see anything but heard a scissor like sound when he started the cut. When I felt nothing the next fear kicked in (I know it never stops) and that was that I wouldn’t be able to hear my little boy cry. But when the dr held him up he gave his first loud cry in the world, and it must have been the nicest sound I have ever heard. Hubby held him and also cried, and then he brought him close to my face so I could have a nice look at our beautiful boy. I started crying while hubby took pics. I couldn’t stop shivering after that, it was as if I did not believe what just happened.

It took about 20 minutes to stich me up and then I went into recovery. I started itching when the anesthetic started wearing off, and they gave me something for the itch.

The pain was much less with the 2nd C-section, I was so relieved.

Later that day hubby fetched Claudia and she was so happy to see her brother, and she couldn’t get over the way he clenched her finger in his tiny hands.

I just love becoming a Mother for the 2nd time. Try and triple the love – there you have it.
