Twin Temperaments

Post by Wendy on Tue 10 Nov 2009 - 11:25

Hi all twin mommies,

Just wondering - do your twins have similar personalities or are they very different? I can't believe how different my two are. My son needs lots of attention and needs to be constantly amused. He is a restless sleeper, cries during the night for his dummy and at the end of the day is nearly impossible to deal with when he's tired. He smiles only when he wants to and often has a furrowed brow. He is on the chubby side and despite being 6 weeks prem - at 7.5 months weighs over 8kg. He needs lots of toys to amuse him!

My daughter on the other hand has become such an easy baby after being the one who had the most problems at birth (only weighed 1.4kg) She is still small (6kg or so) but has such a pleasant disposition. When I put her to bed at night she literally stays in the same position until morning and wakes up with a huge smile on her face like she;s just so pleased to see you. The only time she really cries is when she's very very tired. She's not strong enough to sit yet but happily sits in her bouncy chair and babbles away to herself, smiling at the world.

Interested to hear your experiences - also - those of you (Melanie?) with identical twins - do you find they are similar in personality as well as looks?

HI Wendy

My boys seem just like your two. Kian is very demanding and is a terrible sleeper needs all the attention. While Connor the smaller of the two is calm and will babble away with his toys quite contentedly by himself.

people are already starting to guess what they will be like when they are older and I want to say no! they can be themselves do start putting things onto them. like my FIL said that Connor was goign to the be the sweetey and KIan the bully!! You cannot do that to my sons!! :Mad

Well Wendy, mine are as different as can be too, and it started already before they were born. Rachel has always been the "feisty" one - kicked much more tha Olivia in my tummy, and even screaming more at birth. She definitely leaves you without any doubt as to what she wants. She is also more "ma-vas" - follows me around like a little tail! She is a sweetheart though and makes jokes all the time! She is the better sleeper, never asks for a dummy at night, in fact she doesn't like them and days pass without her sucking on them!

Olivia is a much more placid baby, and she is very smiley and loves rough play. She laughs her little head of if I bounce her around! She likes her dummy and would suck it all day if I let her! She sleeps well but will very occasionally ask for her dummy. She is more adventurous than her sister, doing everything (except standing, that is Rachel) first. She will amuse herself for hours without complaining, but she gets very sorry for herself if she bumps her head or something, and she doesn't do "sick baby" well at all - if Olivia has a cold, everyone knows about it!

I also find it so amazing how different they are, obviously they look different, but mine are growing at about the same pace now. Rachel caught up with Olivia (initialluy 300gr less) and now they stay within about 100gr of each other.

Sjoe looonngg story - can talk about them for a long time!

xx

No I wish Wendy.

They have exactly me and hubbies personallities.

Montinique is her dads girls have her finger around her dad and gets away with everything!!!! - have mommies chubby cheeks but she wants to be entertain the whole time, need to be rock to sleep at night, loves to play with daddy, wants her way with everything and bully her sis, but she is so cute and love her to bits. She was the bad one of the two with the colic, biggest at birth and the younger sis. Very friendly child

Then my angel Montiné - she is mommies girl. Looks like and angel when she sleeps, keep herself busy and entertained. Fall asleep on her own, barely cries and is a bit slower with everything comparing to her sis. Was the first born but the smaller one and still it. Like to lay on her back and play with her toys, doesn't like to sit, will rather stand. Sometimes I feel she doesn't get as much attention as her sis because she is the quite one. You have to beg her to smile at the camera.

Size wise - Montinique is the bigger one but only by a few grams form birth but I can see and feel those few grams. She is physically stronger that Montiné but voice, sound and hand mouth co-ordination Montiné is better on.

Personally I think we gonna have a few cries before they will really play together. Montiné will just let her sis take the toys without a fight but when she want Montinques toys, no no no she can't have it.

Interesting - It looks like Montine have hubbies stronger skin when it comes to sun and Montiniques her mommies pale white skin that burns easilly, so even thought they look the same personality wise they differ alot!

Yes Wendy, Although mine are only 4 months old they are so different. Bjorn is a very happy baby, almost never complaining only when he is very tired. He loves his dummy and will also suck on it the whole day. Carmen is one of a kind. She wants to be in the arms the whole day, can't even try and put her down then she cries. Only laughs on occation usually two in the morning when she is supposed to sleep She hates her dummy
Smiley . Its amazing to see how different their personalities are!!

Hi Wendy

I think it is a girl and boy thing. Wade is a typical boy. Loves attention, loves women and loves being in the arms. He also niggles more, fights his sleep and is much bigger than Erin. Wade does love to laugh.

Erin is a dream baby. She happily chats to herself in her cot and falls asleep. She loves sleeping. She is more reserved and does not laugh as easily as her brother. She can "talk" alot and must take after her mother

Hi Wendy,

seems like most mommies of twins have a calm one and a bit of a feisty one, hey.

sometimes i feel so bad. Claudia is my feisty one and feel that she just needs me so much, which makes me feel like i end up not giving Halle enough attention which she also deserves. I try so hard to keep it even. But i suppose Halle will need me more in other situations aswell - if that makes sense.

Do any other mommies sometimes feel like that?

Hi Tracey - I feel the same way! Michael is so demanding of my attention that I end up spending a lot of my time just trying to entertain him, whereas Grace is very "low maintenance" and amuses herself most of the time. I really have to make a concerted effort to spend time with Grace - and she just gives me the biggest smiles when I do!

Hey , the more i read your answers the more i see so many similarities....

I also have one "performer" and one more content one..... but they have a twist here and there...

Nica is the elder, slightly heavier one, and she is the content one, easy child - Happy most of the time, entertain herself, drinks well, play more intensive, sleep easily (doesnt like to be rocked, just wants to be put down), doesnt like dummies, she doesnt smile easily but when she does - its a million dollar smile!!! But the twist: she was (and still is) a huge struggle when it comes to eating sollids...

Kiana is the younger one and the performer.... enjoys to "perform" whenever she feels fit, when she plays its with lots of laughter and needs lots of variety, drinks like she has time until tomorrow - no hurry , giggles and laughs a lot, wants to have a dummy to fall asleep, wants to be rocked just for a minute or so before being put down...... Smiles very easily. Twist: eats like a dream, opens her mouth beautifully and not problems there..

i did feel guilty at some point in time that i spent little bit more time with Kiana being the performer, but now they are starting to balance each other out and i try to spend same time with each one and give them the same amount of attention!!!

I have identical boys and they are so different. Jason (the older one) is calmer than Grant who is eccentric and has a temper that I have never experienced before.

From birth Grant was more awake then Jason and to this day he has more energy and he is generally the one to TRY and fight me at bedtime!

Interesting though that Jason and Dylan (big brother) have very similar personalities.

Hi Everyone, when DJG updated her posting on her boys, and i went into the forum to check..... i went back to my previous posting..... and WOW - it is so amazing how my girls have SWOPPED around.
When i posted the above my girls were 7 months and Nica was the quiet one, and Kiana the peformer.
Now they are 10 months, and Nica is the adrenalin junkie , the explorer, not sitting still for a second, climbing onto everything, crawling at 50km an hour (or feels like it), still a fussy eater though, and going into her CLINGY phase now where she just want to be in the arms. Strong willed.
Kiana is the silent operator, she enjoys everything around her, eventually managed to crawl in her own special way (currently going in cirlces at the moment, but very cute seeing her move on one knee and the other bum!
She is just happy keeping herself busy , seldom cries or performs anymore. Loves food (same as at 7 months).

Both have the most beautiful smiles , and so adoreable. i still look at them some days and cannot believe that they are mine and i wish i could do something to slow-down their "growing-up so fast" - and i am sure you all share in this! They do things so quickly now that i am so scared to miss anything.

They will switch many more times! The boys used to do that when they were younger, although Grant has always been more 'awake'
