Hi all

Post by Carmen on Wed Nov 18, 2009 12:03 pm

Hi everyone,

I have read your threads and thought that I just have to join. You have been very informative and motivational with regards to adoption, thank you Thumbs Up

I have a quick question.

My husband and myself have started the adoption process. We attended the orientation meeting and have handed in our application forms. The social worker informed us that she will call us to start the screening part. This was 4 weeks ago, so my question is, does it usually take this long? Would it be wrong of me to keep calling her, as I do understand their work load is great.

Thanks

Oh good luck CLC!

I am not sure of the process but maybe just give her a call and ask roughly how long these things take. I am sure she will understand and once you have an answer you will know

Hi nice to meet you and welcome to the forum!

My suggestion would be to keep on phoning. I know the waiting is a killer but the best thing is to keep in contact with your social worker.

Good Luck and i promise you the wait is worth it in the long run!

Hi, I am also quite new to this forum. We adopted a little girl in June this year. We waited 5 years altogether, but it was so worth it. I phoned the SW a lot at the beginning, then sort of eased off. We had pretty much given up and were coming to terms with it when we got our call. Needless to say, it was a shock, but such a lovely one. We were able to pick up our angel 2 days later, she was 2 months old, and just smiled at us, and we fell in love. So no matter how long it takes, it is so worth it. Believe me. Just don't put your life on hold, we still made plans and continued as normal. Else I would have gone mad. I was completely unprepared, I owned 2 little baby jackets my sister had given me, just in case. I had one day to buy the basics, but we were then given so much stuff, and people were so thrilled and supportive. We were quite overwhelmed. So, as you are on this journey, you are not alone, there are so many others on it, just at different stages. Keep praying, keep hoping and remember you are not alone. Smiley

Thanks for your response Pandora Smiley

I actually got great news this morning! SW wants to see us on Monday for our interviews! I'm so relieved that it's all starting now Thumbs Up It's just another step forward to become a mommy!

I have realised that I do have to be patient and just carry on with life. Afterall we have tried for 14 years to have a baby, so I'm definately sure I can wait this out! whistle
