More questions, sorry - daycare
So i have started working on Monday, after 6 months leave. I still feel a bit sad. But now I have a problem. I'm taking
the twins to a daymother, but it doesn't seem to work for me. Takes me forever to get al the kids in the car, and everything packed. Then i drop them off first, but big brother has to first get out of the car with me and chat half an hour to the daymom. I am late for work everyday. I think i need to get a nanny that can rather come to my house and look after them.
How are you guys doing it.

Elaine - i had a nanny at home which is great cause your house is clean and your ironing done - my kids however got kinda addicted to tv as it seems they were shoved in front of the tv so the nanny had time to do everything. I was heartbroken to have to take them to 'school' (I cried and cried) and its horrible to have to pack bags and drop them off but believe me it is 100% better. They are stimulated, they are in routine, they are tired when i pick them up! (I realised all this again when I took them back yesterday). I think its great. Maybe you could take big brother to school first? Don't know how you do it with three - so hats off to you xxx

Hi elaine
I had the same problem, also having to drop of the eldest then drive to the daymom to drop the twins. It just got too much for me! The twins are at home now with a nanny who has lots of twin experiences and it works so well! I do have a seperate maid though, the nanny only takes care of the babies. Every time it is cold or rainy I am so glad that they can stay home. I plan to take them to preschool next year. Everything will be much easier then when they can walk, eat and drink ect. Also, they get ill MUCH less. Definitely a good option. Be sure to go through an agency and try for someone with twin experience. My nanny also has child care certificates so she palys with them and stimulates them quite a lot!

HI
I also have a nanny but I only work half day so I play with them in the afternoon. My nanny is great as no day care could have coped with Kian when he was small. SHe does a bit of housework mainly while they are sleeping and I am home. She is cheaper than I think daycare would have been.
Finnally when my boys got so sick with Bronchiolitis the pead suggested that thier immune systems are still to weak to cope with daycare at the moment and they must stay home.
I do think soon though I will take them one morning a week to play group.

I have been thinking the same thing Kerry. Must just find one! Just to start them socializing with other kids.

Hey, i have a nanny that look after the girls at home. I had her since the birth of the babies. She is also responsible for cleaning the house.
The problem or warning that i must give is, while your babies are still small (less than 6 months) there is more than enough time for her to do all the household work like cleaning and ironing etc... But then it becomes more difficult, and you have to remind yourself all the time that the nanny is mainly there to look after the kids and not to clean the house... So your frustrations about the ironing not getting done and rooms not being tidy and cleaned up need to be but aside...
I also believe that she must have experience looking after babies, and have the necessary certificates. Mine has lots of experience with twins and also have grown up twins of her own.
Since i am working from home, i am a bit of a control freak , and struggle to "let go" and let her do everything..... but i guess i just have to start planning properly again after all the Christmas holidays where i was handling their every move....
If you are based in Pretoria, you can go to Lynnwoodridge NG Kerk on a Wednesday morning. They have this "service" that they provide to the community and to black people looking for work. The job-seekers come to the church - fill out forms and are entered into a data base, and then the potential employers go there and select the type of person they want with the type of experence required, and then they call out those people one by one. There are nice desks and chairs where you can have interviews, and most of the time you will find your match there.

Re: More questions, sorry - daycare
Thanks. I have made up my mind now after yesterday. When I fetched them yesterday i was so upset. The daymom tells me they only drank half a bottle of milk each and almost no food. That is not good. They usually drink every 3 hours on the dot and eat good. Carmen only weighs 4,3kg now, she must still drink plenty of milk! They drank so much milk last night, I think they were very hungry.
I orginised a nanny. She work at my sons nursery school, got lots of experience and training. She is really brilliant with kids, Tiaan really loves her. She has to work one months notice and will start end of the month. For now they must stay with Granny. I will still have my domestic worker, so she must only concentrate on the twins. Yes Page there is now way anyone can look after them and keep up with the housework, espesially now that they are sleeping less in the day. Thanks for all the advice, I think it will be the better option for us. Espesially when it is cold and rainy not to take them out.

I am glad you mad up your mind and that is the best for you!
What I pay for daycare is nothing as to what I will have to pay for a nanny at home. My daymom is brilliant with kids and the twins and they love it there. They eat better there than at home (maybe my food it not yummy enough
) and are in a very nice routine. The best decision I have made!

Hi Elaine
I have a maid who comes 3 x per week to clean and a separate Nanny for my twins who started when they were 4 months old. She comes in daily (does not live in). I am thrilled with her - she has looked after triplets before so twins are a bit of a breeze. She is responsible for cleaning their room and also washing their clothes and cleaning their toys etc etc. She is great with them - Grace as you know was a problem eater and I had trouble getting her to gain wait - but she was so patient with her and really managed to get her to eat and drink well.
I can highly recommend going the nanny route. I actually feel quite relaxed during the week as leaving and coming home from work is stress free now - I don't need to worry about dropping off and picking up and if they are sick what will I do with them. Oh - and they have not had a days illness yet - apart from 1 cold!
