We loved our camp cot - I cot a cheap one at Toys R US for about R600, plus mattress at R190.
I live in a very cold house so after one night in their beautiful white wooden cots, we moved them to our room so we could all be warm together.
They slept in that camp cot for 4 months and then they moved to their room BUT when one was screaming we'd move that one to our room so the other one would still sleep.
I honestly think for the price and the convenience, camp cots are well worth the price (but not the fancy schmancy ones)
