Bottle question

Post by TarrynT on Fri 16 Apr 2010 - 13:15

Hi ladies,

Pls help me. I have only got 2 bottles. A tommee tippee and a nuk bottle? I want to get more but im not sure what baby would prefer or if ill even use them in the beginning if breastfeeding works out.
Should I rather wait or get a few more now?

With Hanco I decided to go with Avent from the beginning, so I bought the bottles before he was born, breastfed him for 2 week and then switched to the bottles, but now with Zhanè I decided to give NUK a try, so I bought the NUK Bottle Started Pack the other day and will be buying a few more bottles at the end of the month. I really don't think it is necessary to buy a bottle of each brand and to try and test them all out on baby, there is so much research going into each brand these days that the focus shifted from "which one is the best brand to use" to "which brand you prefer", if you understand what I'm trying to say?

Tarryn, go to dischem - you get a pack of 3 bottles for R24... and then you can buy the teets for them... It works out much cheaper - D actualy preferred and still prefers some of the cheaper teets!

I bought a NUK set. Z refused those bottles at first. Luckily a friend gave me as a gift cheap bottles and he loved the teets! It's only now that he is drinking the NUK bottles and loving it. So now he alternates from NUK to cheapie teets, to the nipples :Yes

My boys were all NUK Wide neck babies, I found them to be the best, I bought cheap one's from Ackermans and then added the NUK teats in. When I had my first, the bottles were R50 each, then when I had the twins they were R90 each (only 19 month difference) it has now been almost three years, I do not want to know what they must cost.

I would definitely go with cheap bottles and NUK teats!

Tarryn there is more than enough time to buy what works. But seriously breastfeeding is about determination. So don't give in too easily.

I met a lady in PnP last month and her baby was tiny and not gaining weight the dr has recomended topping him up with formula. But when I was chatting to her about her problem she admitted he fell asleep while drinking and they could not wake him. SO I think the dr was wrong. I suggested she change his nappy as soon as he fell asleep.

anyway nother pointless story. my boys were switched from nuk narrow teats to MAM just cause thier thick milk was easier sucked out of a MAM bottle. But they had no hassels with switching. Funny they were fussier about thier dummies. They would only take one brand!
