My Birth Story Baby Lelona's arrival
After a long and sleepless night on Tuesday, I finally got out of bed at 7 a.m. I prepared and took my daughter to crèche. Came back home and re packed mine and baby’s hospital bag for the 100th time. I then attempted to shave down there but it was physically impossible and so accepted the fact that it was going to be done at hospital. I consoled myself by taking a long bubbly bath followed by a HUGE breakfast. My sister (who was to be my birth partner) came at about half past 10 and we went to buy the last minute things I needed for hospital.
We arrived at the hospital at half past twelve and I was “checked” in. After all the paperwork I was given some nasty medicine to drink to prevent nausea on the operating table. At 2 p.m as I was being wheeled to theatre, another lady who was attempting natural birth had complications and so she went in before me. It took an hour and it was the longest hour ever. By 3 pm I was sooo hungry and thirsty and was ready to faint but could not be given anything to eat. Finally it was my turn and at about 15:20 I was wheeled in to what felt more like a butchery cold room than a theatre. My anaesthisist (S-p) came in and I was given the spinal/epidural needle which HURT but atleast it was quick. My doc came in at exactly 3:30 (I remember because the clock was the only thing I could see infront of me). It all happened so fast because at exactly 15:45, Lelona gave a very impressive cry. First thing doctor said was she looks just like daddy. She was taken for her check up while I lay there for what felt like forever as doc stitched me up. I then got terrible nausea (despite that nasty medicine they gave me) and I had such a horrible headache I think I passed out a few times because there are blank parts in my memory.
Lelona was then handed to me and we were taken back to the ward where we were given time to bond. I started breastfeeding immediately and she sucked like a pro. At about 5 she was taken for her bath and returned to me after. My sister then went to fetch my daughter and MIL from home and my daughter fell in love with her sister the moment she met her.
