The birth of Jayden

Post by Guest on Wed 9 Jun 2010 - 16:10

My birth story is way over due I know Oh my but here it is none the less even tho my precious Jayden is already 4 months old. for you

The morning of Sunday 7 Feb 2010 I wake up feeling no different to that of any other day in the last days of my pregnancy..only difference is that 7 Feb was due date for my precious son. Anyway as the day went on I was sitting around waiting for something to start happening and ....nothing! I had been for my last gyne appointment 5 days prior to my due date and he said that anything could happen in my last week and that i must just monitor my contractions etc. Anyway by lunchtime on sunday still nothing other than me feeling abit anxious and tired so myself and DH went for an afternoon lay down on the bed, at about 5pm I woke up feeling as sick as hell..ran to the loo and Puke and it was black! I got such a fright becos i read somewhere that Puke is a sign of labour starting! My dh was super nervous/excited at this point and started to panic (why is it that man panic when a woman goes into labour yet the woman stays calm)! Anyway he suggested i get dressed and he will take me to the hospital. We got to the hospital and went up to the maternity section, i was put on the CTG machine to have my contractions monitored, i was having contractions but labour hadnt started and i was told it could be hours still till anything happens and because i was only booked in on a 24 hour package (becos we didnt have medical aid) and i was at a pvt hospital (kingsbury) the nurses told me its beta to go home and wait it out as if i stay i will be using up from my 24 hours and would have to pay extra and obviously that we wouldnt be able to afford. So we went back home to wait things out. I had mild contractions that evening but nothing I couldnt handle. That night we went to bed and i actually did manage to sleep after a whil (never thought that at 40 weeks pregnant I would be going to sleep when i thought i was going to be giving birth)....

Monday 8 Feb...6am i wake up in pain..the contractions are feeling slightly worse but I still wasnt convinced that it was labour so i asked dh to make me a cuppa tea. I had a gyne appointment booked for 3:45pm and my gyne was going to do an internal and see whats happening because Jayden was now a day late. Anyway the morning when on and the pain got abit worse as the morning went on, my 9am i told dh to give the gyne a call and ask him if we cant maybe schedule the appointment for sooner than 3:45pm as i was in alot of pain, the best he could do was 1pm as before that he had to go deliver a baby. Around 11am i got into the bath to try and ease the pain abit but it didnt help, it started getting so sore that i battled to get out the bath and dh had to help me! I couldnt eat and when i walked i had to stop as it felt like i wanted to double over in pain. Finally got dressed and my dh packed the bags in the car and we headed to the appointment, i was so sore and it was getting more sore by the minute literally! We got there and I hobbled into the waiting room still trippling over in pain by now and feeling like passing out from being so sore! The gyne did and internal to see what was happening as he said it could be labour starting. He did the internal and looked at me all amazed and said...my goodness i cant believe it..i then got very nervous and asked what the matter was :confuzzed he then said and i will never forget it "Candice you are 4 going on 5cm dilated"!! he said he was going to phone the Kingsbury and tell them to book me in as im on my way. I burst into :Worry and my emotions were all over the place, i couldnt beleive that in hours to come i would be holding my precious son that i had waited so long for but at the same time i cried at the thought that soon i would be in full labour and that thought of that scared me senseless..funny considering i knew all along that the way would come when i would have to give birth whistle anyway dh then drove me to the hospital and when we got there I could hardly walk and felt very Puke again...knowing now that i was 5cm dilated made me feel even more Puke We got to the maternity section and i got dressed into the blue gown and got into the bed. The nurses hooked me up to the CTG machine and my contractions were peaking so high and the machine sounded like it wanted to literally fly off the table! i was in so much pain i didnt know if i was coming or going!! i kept asking when is the anethatist going to get here the whole time. They put my drip in and got everything prep'd for the anethatist who arrived about 30 minutes after I did. He set me up and administered the epi (my dh almost fainted when he watched that needle go into my back) and i didnt feel a thing! for me the drip in my hand was more painful than the epi! Took about 20 minutes in total for the epi to starting working. My mom came thru to see me and it was great to have her there too. It was now about 3:30pm and the epi is working and im feeling ok again, every now and then i would shake uncontrollabley but was told that its a side affect of the epi. My waters were then broken as they never broke on there own even tho i was in labour.

At about 5pm my gyne arrived to check up on me and said everything was fine and that i was going on for 8cm dilated and that by 8/8:30pm it would be time!!! i burst out crying again..i was so excited that i would be meeting my gorgeous son but scared once again of the birth..time went so fast after that and before i knew it it was 19h50 and the gyne was back to check on my pregress, he then looked at the CTG machine and said im 9cm dilated..what he didnt tell me was that my babys heartbeat had spiked to 210bpm (he didnt tell me becos he didnt want me to go into shock or a state of panic) and this had happened becos moments before i broke out into a fever and then the gyne said we cant wait for me to get to 10cm and that we had to deliver this baby now before something goes wrong and that if we wait any longer he would have no choice but to do a c sec! blink I just knew something was going wrong and i was scared out of my mind!! The gyne didnt even have time to put his delivery garments on and dh stayed in his normal clothes, he chased my mom and sister out and closed the door and told me that i have to now when he says so push like my life depends on it becos he has to get the baby out now! :Shocked So i did what he said and each time he told me to push i gave all my might and did just that, i had dh holding one leg up while the midwife held the other one up and im those moments before Jayden came into the world it was so tense and i knew that if i didnt give it my all i would have lost my baby. My gyne then said he could see the baby crowning and and i need to push when he says so and not stop till he says so, i was in such shock biut my adrenalin kept me going. It was the weirdest sensation ever, i could feel the pressure down there but there was no pain, I felt jaydens entire body come out as it came out yet it wasnt sore at all! After about 10 minutes of intense pushing my baby boy was born at 20:37pm. I cried tears of joy when i saw him (when i first saw him all i saw was hair) :heehee2: he had a full mop of black hair. He was given to me and as i help him in my arms i couldnt beleive that he was my baby and finally in my arms, he was so solid and such a big baby, so healthy. I was so thankful that he was ok and that nothing happened to him during the birth which was so stressful at the end, there are no words to deccribe how i felt to hold my child for the first time and to look into his precious little family. My dh held him and i would see his heart was melting Smile My Mom, Dad and Sister were allowed back into the room and got to meet my son for the first time (their first grandchild), it was a very special moment for my entire family and there were plenty of joyful tears to go around Wub The nurse then took Jayden off to the nursery to have him cleaned, the agpar test done and so on. In the meanwhile i remained in the delivery room and was stitched up and cleaned. I was so flippen exhausted it was unreal. Jayden was then brought back to me and i was then told he weighed 4.160kg and was 58cm in length! i couldnt beleive what I had just achieved! :Shocked

Jayden is the light of my life, he brings dh and myself so much joy and happiness and he is the apple of my mom and dads eye (their first grandchild). Wub I love him with all my heart and would do it all over again in a heart beat. Wub

such an amazing birth story! You should be proud of yourself, pushing out a 4kg baby, i was scared of anything over 3.5kg, so opted for caesar, such a sissy i know!
