Constipation

Post by DJMommy on Thu 17 Jun 2010 - 13:29

I am so sorry for all the questions :Embarassed Thought I should rather post here, so that I dont irritate everyone in the mommy lounge Rolling Eyes

Ok, my poor Daniel has been suffering with constipation for the last 2 days. It is so sore for him when he poops, he actually screams. I thought maybe water would help, but it hasnt made a difference.

Is there anything I can give him? My friend said the best thing is to put vaseline on my baby finger and then rub the vaseline in his bum, but um, I want to know if there is something else I can try first........

Yeah tha vaseline helps to keep it soft so that it just slides out.

I used a few drops of milk of magnesia, but you mentioned they might be a bit colicy so im not sure if it will aggravate the cramps. Some brown sugar apparently in water, also helps.

brown sugar works & 1drop of medicinal olive oil or normal olive oil a day helps to keep it soft. D was on soy & that made him constipated in the beginning. xx

Yip with lilly on that one

Also, what i used to do is rub vaseline on my finger and then massage his bum while he is straining, the massage action will help relax the muscles so he doesn't pinch...that used to help quite alot....

Evie, at every nappy change and after bath time, massage his tummy clockwise with a bit of baby oil just a little bit. You'll be amazed at how good it works for a whole bunch of things, including cramps! (Just don't do it after he's had a feed, like this dumb blonde did the first time...)

I am with Lilly on the olive oil, works like a charm Smile I was also reluctant to do the vaseline thing... you could use a cotton bud instead of your finger though!

I heard somewhere that if your baby is constipated, you should massage his right heel with a bended finger for a few minutes in circular motion.
Think it's sister Lilian that said it.
Hope you get something that helps, Eve!

Kayden was also like that, I was so worried I even took him to the peadiatrician and she said that I shouldn't worry about it too much. She also told me to give him brown sugar in the water every day and it really helped. Sometimes when I see the brown sugar is not working I give him "Babasuur" it also helps or maybe a "Babies Own" tablet, not sure from what age they can take Babies Own though. Shame, It's not nice when they are like that, you should try helping him by pressing his legs up against his stomach when you see he's trying to do a number two.

Eve, I dont have advise, but just watch it closely please. Kaylin was constipated for 3 days at 4 months and "passed out" as she tried getting it out and vomited through her nose, mouth as she was pushing so hard...we rushed her to ER and doc said I was "naughty"...lol

You can try Duphalac as well.

My paed recommended glycerine suppositories. And I changed Michaels formula to Novolac IT whcih is for constipated babies. When he was a month old he went 4 days without pooing so I took him to the paed!

When Connor went onto Lactogen, he got a bit constipated. Actually he does have this problem fairly regularly Smile

My paed told me to put ONE teaspoon of brown sugar in 100 ml water and give him that.

It worked - within an hour he'd made a poo, every time.

SHe did say if it didn't work, then glycerine INFANT suppositories. Stick HALF of one up their bum. Sounds gross and I'm glad I didn't have to do it.

I'm very squeamish - thank goodness my babies are not vomiters!
