Different size twins

Post by CoachMarcia on Wed Jun 23, 2010 3:02 pm

My two are vastly different in size. So much so that often people don't think they're twins!

Connor is 10.18 and Kendra 7.45 kg at 11 months.

When people see them, everyone says "gosh, he's SO BIG" - drives me batty because he is NOT BIG. She is small.

He is on exactly the 50th percentile. She's on like the 3rd percentile (something like that - I don't care, she's finally growing!)

Does anyone else have this "challenge" and how do you deal with it?

I know that there are a few mom's here with quite a size difference... mine have been 300grams apart for most of their life!

Rachel was born 300gr less than Olivia, then caught up at a stage, now she weighs about 300 gr less again, although they are exactly the same height. so Rachel actually look a lot smaller, and I worry about her weight a lot - so much so that I am adding Pediasure to her First Growth Milk at night, just to give her some sort of edge. She is just a worse eater and much more active than Liv, so it all adds up. But ja I get tired of people asking about 'the small one' too!

there are lots of twins different sizes also I think it is better that the girl is smaller can you imagine growing up bigger than your bother of the same age. Talk about complexes!!

my boys are a good Kg apart mostof the time Kian just eats nmore and is more active hence more muscles (I get tired of people telling me he is goign to play full back rugby!!).

I would be happy with 300 g or even a kilo - but ours are nearly 3 kg difference!

Yes I can definetely relate to this problem. At 11 months Bjorn weighs 8,4 kgs and Carmen not even 6kg now. I am starting to get frustrated when we go out also. Everyone says Bjorn is huge, but he is still very small for his age. It is just that Carmen is just absolutely very petite, and a terrible eater. I am so happy that she is starting to wear 3-6months clothes now and starting to get on the growth chart.. And the questions of are they twins just drives me batty!! How can I possibly have two babies so close together and a four year old.
I think maybe Wendy also have the same problem that we do Smiley

Elaine, YES!!!

Exactly how could we have had two separate pregnancies so close together to produce the non-twins? LOL

Yours are tiny Smile

On the bright side, yesterday I heard of a colleague with a singleton who only weighs 7,5 at 11 months (on 3rd percentile like my Kendra) and was born at 3,something at 40 weeks. So then I felt a lot better!

P.S. Elaine, the main thing is... is your paed happy with their progress?

Ours is - obviously Connor is no problem as he caught up to normal babies by 3 months and has been fine ever since, despite his occasional food strikes!

Kendra is just not one for milk but she is a very good eater of food (like her mother!). She is far more active than her brother so she's still skinny but is growing (she's tall and thin).

He (the paed) told me we won't concern ourselves with THE growth charts, but with HER growth chart and her curve's been accelerating since she started solids at 6 months.

Yes, my husband sometimes comments to them that he is a "super inseminator". If only they know all the trouble we went through to have them Smile

Well that make me feel better also, at least Carmen has tripple plus her birthweight . Thanks now I do feel better, somedays I really feel blue about their size, especially with the 1st birthday coming up..

Bjorn loves his food, there he is like his father. Not fussy, gets happy when he sees any type of food. But doesn't like his milk at all. Carmen drinks her milk, but food must still be like soup otherwise she pukes. Paed still happy cause she is growing and she had a lot to catch up on. She was 1kg at birth and boetie 2.1.

To which milk are you changing them now that they are almost a year. I am clueless

I do NOTHING unless I've discussed it with the paed Smile

My appt is for 7 July on exactly their birthday so will find out about milk and all the rest of it then. For now they're on Lactogen 2 (Connor) and Nan 2 (Kendra).

P.S. I don't know how you cope with 3 kids! Two of them already run me ragged.

Good idea, were going on the 8th of July.

I just go with the flow at the moment, i'm a bit of a control freak but I think the 3 kids helped me a bit with that issue. Smiley

Hi!
We have exactly the same problem! My twins are 9.5months & J weighs 10.25kg & T only 7.58kg! We are also told all the time that J will be the front row rugby player & T scrum half! They are both growing well but J had a better start, there was 600g difference @ birth & T couldn't tolerate feeds for first 2 weeks so J galloped ahead. We also get asked if they are twins!! They also look completely different which doesn't help with that question! i often want to reply, no, they are 4 months apart, duh!

Anyway, you aren't alone! As long as the paed is happy, ignore everyone esle!
Love me

Suzanne, nice to meet you Smile

It's amazing how that first bit affects things so much. Honestly, from 260 g difference at birth to TEN times that now!
