Re: Different size twins

Mine have been 300 grams apart at birth and stayed that way more or less until the little decided she wants to walk first! Now she is this fit tiny little runner, and at least 1,5kg lighter than her sister who was lazy to walk and still tryiing to get the hang of it ... and she is just packing the kilos and looks slightly bigger than her sister.

But even when they still looked the same size a couple of months ago i would get.... are they twins.... but the one has got blue eyes and the other brown.... how did you do that.... duh....

Anyway, i just smile and walk away. But next time when someone asks i am going to take Suzannes's advise and say: No, they are 1 month apart.
Let them ponder on that when i smile and walk away.

Oh yes - got that problem too! Michael was 2.32kg at birth ("big" for his gestation of 34 weeks) whereas Grace was only 1.4kg. In fact the reason my gynae delivered early was because Grace had stopped growing and Michael was just guzzling and guzzling and guzzling.

Since birth the weight gap grew to over 2kg. In the beginning Grace was on the 3rd percentile and MIchael the 90th percentile! Since then Michael has "grown into" himself and I think now at 15 months probably weighs around 10.5kg. He was on the 50th percentile at his 1yr checkup. At this checkup Grace had increased to the 5th percentile so the Paed was very happy with her. She weighs just over 8kg now I think and has just started walking. She will always be petite but I'm not worried about her. She's a happy little thing and to see this little miniature child toddling around is just to cute,.I am also happy that she is the petite one and not her brother!

The comments do get tiresome though - ie how can they be twins - they are so different in size???? The other day someone asked what was the age gap between my babies and my husband answered "about a minute"! Normally I just smile and say "he ate all the food inside me and is still eating all the food!"

My best was when, even after saying they were twins the person said "but were they born at the same time????"

Mmm, looks like I am going to end up with the same problem! Josh is 3.3kg's now and Daniel is 4.2kg's. I am already getting comments that Daniel is HUGE. ANd yes Kerry, I am also already getting those 'rugby' comments! Rolling Eyes

The comments do get tiresome.

I have said these things to people before:

* the paed is very happy with BOTH of them
* remember, they're unique children, only born at the same time

Sorry to but into a very twin related post but I think people just do not think when they speak! Like when you pregnant and only have one they say stupid things like "you are huge are you having twins!" Oh god Lord NOOOOO but thanks for making me feel worse about my size you stupid old bat! (LOL)

Even with Kayla a lady in Edgars asked me how old she was at Christmas time and at the time she was 5 months, the lady then says "shew she's huge I thought she was 1 years old" I mean geez woman!! So you are not the only ones having these difficulties, poeple still do it to me and Kayla was born at 38 weeks, at 3.26kg and is sort of average weight and height for her age if not a little below and they still comment about how big she is or tiny she is....

Poeple are just doff~! Especially people who have not idea on how twin pregnancies work and premmies and development etc..
