the arrival of baby M a d i s o n

Post by sweetpea on Fri 25 Jun 2010 - 14:23

so here we go.....

madison was only due on 7 July 2010,but decided to make her arrival on the 7th of June 2010 instead.

a week before i was due to go on maternity leave i was a bit uncomfortable, doc decided to book me off on sick leave so i could get some rest.with this i must say that my whole pregnancy everything had run smoothly,no problems at all.

at 28 weeks i decided to change gyneas & hospitals(the other one was far away from home & over the medical aid rate).

wed nite 2 june i had terrible pains....checked constantly if there was any other signs that would indicate labour...but nothing.thought it to be Braxton hicks & that it would go away eventually. The fri nite i suffered quite bad...had hot bath,dh rubbing my back....it didnt get better....but there was nothing to time as my tummy just stayed hard the whole time.Eventually i phoned the maternity ward who suggested that i come in for a quick check up.felt a bit stupid cause im only 35 & a bit weeks & thought the nurses would treat me funny if it was a false alarm.

so when we got there they checked my urine, put me on that machine that measures the contractions etc....being quite nervous about the whole thing & then hearing to ladies screaming down the passage cause of their labour pains :Unsure my contractions seemed to be mild, and urine had traces of blood :confuzzed they did a quick internal & found that little missy's head was way down & had to just push it back....i hadnt started dialating yet & my cervix was posterior.Doc decided that he would do the csec that nite.

so it was all systems go..Madi was on the way & everyone excited!Doc later decided to give me some meds to stop labour as he would prefer me to take the pregnancy a bit further.he only gave me very minimal as the baby was a good size, said that if labour stared up again that he would definately let us go ahead.Sunday all was calm.Monday morning the trouble started....my tummy started contracting and was very sensitive to the touch, they put the machine up again & found that it wasnt proper contractions, but that my uterus was very irritated(i could stay like that for the remainder of the pregnancy, induce or csec)i asked for safest option & the csec was booked for 6 that evening - 7 june.

again the excitement..letting everyone know etc.filled the forms, did the checks ,pre meds etc & it was time to go.nervous as hell they took me to theatre where everyone introduced themselves....then it was time for the epi...i cried like a baby(my nerves were finished by then).it seemed as if they were about to start & i cld see my DH nowhere & kept asking for him.i got sick and they adjusted my meds 2 or 3 times & eventually put some oxygen on to.within minutes the baby was born and this is where the drama started.waiting anxiously for the first cry.....nothing.and then it seemed like everyone was rushing ...i didnt know that when they cut the umbilical cord she started swelling up....her lungs colapsed - they ran off to the nicu with her)me still not knowing whats happening.asking about my baby & i went into shock...woke up 2 hours later(they had sedated me)wheeling me back to my room(all drugged up)seeing all my family in tears..thinking everyone is so happy about her birth.i was put in a seperate room.i kept asking if she was ok...and everyone said she was fine....but the truth was that docs had already spoken to the family telling them that she wasnt going to make it through the nite :affraid

i obviously didnt know about any of this till recently(as everyone starts to talk about her birth)

next morning i had a doc in my room telling me my baby is very sick & that she would be in hospital for a loooong time(still drugged up & not sure of what the hell was going on)had my gynea & aneathatist come chat to me about some disease...and i was like :confuzzed

madi was diagnosed with chylothorax....the doc taking care of her Dr Ricky Dippenaar(neonatologist)is the only one out of all of them that has ever had cases like this(i thought he was there all along, but apparently they called him & he drove something like 200km/h to get tp my baby.ever since then its been tests, drainage, xrays etc.will take up to 3months,maybe longer - im hoping for less of course.

add me as a friend on facebook melissa jordaan oberholster so u can follow updates & see the pics as i add them

so for now my life is between my house and the hospital, praying everyday that my girl will get better

I'm reading this with tears in my eyes.

Madi has already proven the dr's wrong she's made it WAY longer than the first night and she IS going to get better!

Will keep you, Madi, the drs and nurses that look after Madi and your whole family in our prayers!

Get well soon Madi Smile

Wow, I take my hat off to you being able to handle all of this and write the story here.

As others have already said, she has proven the doctors wrong already by making it way past her first night.

I'm constantly praying for her and you and hubby. May she continue to go from strength to strength and be home much sooner than what the docs are saying.

Bear love
