Re: Getting out with twins.
Hi,
We dont go out at night - since the girls sleep much better at home than at someone else's place. So invite the friends over to us... We have occationally went to friends .... sometimes we could manage to get the girls to sleep easily but other times it is a nightmare so opt not to do that.
Restaurants... we only go during the day - dont do it often but it happens.
And then on Saturdays ... is my day OUT with the girls. So i usually have coffee or lunch somewhere with my mom or friends or sometimes alone.
Between 6 and 12 months they were fine going to a restaurant strapped in their pram with toys and food snacks to keep them busy.
Nowadays i do as Kerry does, take the trolley and put one infront in the sit basket and the other one standing in the big basket area. they love it. and then when i stop for coffee or snack I ask for the kiddies seats and they are then very good. (just dont look at the area on the floor when you leave... you will be more than RED of embarrassment and NEVER want to return)
(i must also add with the kiddies seats i have only done it once when i was alone... and had to be quick - just a coffee. So you kindoff need someone with you like hubby , friend, or grannies to help entertain and relax
Zellie - it might be a mission for you the first and second time, then you get the hang of it and you will see the girls love to just sit and be pushed through the mall and watch the people! I usually don't buy much but just go out to give them the sense of "getting out"
For you and hubby....
In Pretoria you can also try that "very divine " place in Moreleta Park called "Divine Delights" On the corner of Wekker and mmmm forgot the name - but its accross Picasso street. Just before the robot of De ville boa and Wekker....
They are not a EATING place but more a coffee with cake or tea and quiche, but their stuff is TO DIE for!! all very interesting combos and you can sit outside and the kids can have free reign if you like...
Rhapsodys in the new Parkview center (accross from Pta East hospital) is a nice option for a Sunday afternoon lunch
They have a kiddies area and a Paid girl that entertain children and you can sit in the kiddies area and have your lunch while you can see your kids but they are being entertained by someone else. We have been there once and it worked wonderful.
For later on when your girls are bigger (i would say around 2) there is this very nice Pachinnos that opened on the corner of Hazeldean and Lynnwood road, and they have lovely stuff for kids, they can build their own pizzas and there are kiddies tables for the kids to sit and a playground similar to the spurs....with nannies looking after the kids.
At the moment i would not give the girls free range at any place since they are wild at haert and big explorers. Having them intact in the kiddies seats or pram is controllable....
Let me know when you want to try things out.... we can always meet one Saturday....

Re: Getting out with twins.
Hi Page!
I agree re the restaurants - don't look down! We always leave a BIG tip... We find that it gets more and more difficult, the twins refuse to stay in their pram at eateries and baby chairs are no longer an option either. We also don't want to make things difficult for the other people so we usually end up eating and running! It is a marathon!
We also prefer having people over to us, as we don't mind the mess (unless it is our friends with small kids, they don't mind too much either!)
We love Papachino's but the twins are too young - miss D loves it though.
But it will get easier again - just another 6 to 12 months!

Re: Getting out with twins.
Hi
Thanks for all the nice ideas ladies.
Page - I would love to meet you one Saturday with the kiddies ... let me just try a few times out alone or with grandma and then I'll give you a ring. I get a bit nervous at this stage but soon I'll put on my brave mommy face and pretend nobody is looking at me and the girls.
I also like your new profile pic. Your girls are super cute.
Luv
Zellie

Re: Getting out with twins.
I think that as twin mothers we already feel so watched as people act like they have never seen twins in their life... just ignore them Zellie, if you are at a kid friendly place then people who cannot handle the shreeks and mess that comes with kids, should not be there!
