The long awaited birth of Rachel Tiffany Theunissen

Post by TarrynT on Tue 6 Jul 2010 - 9:36

So after a 40 week, 5 day wait, a night before we were booked for an induction my waters broke. I was fast asleep and thought I had peed in my brooks so I jumped up went to the loo and it stopped so I thought okay what the hell. Went back to bed told hubby that im leaking and next minute big gush (luckily he made me sleep on towels) so we knew this was it, we quickly got changed, he managed a shower (I clearly was being showered already). We got in the car (this was at 12:40pm) we dropped DVDs off (ha ha ha yes we did) and drove to hospital. In the car the water was just pooling in my lap, I cannot explain to you how much there was, its amazing. I practically used a towel as a pad between my legs. Went up to labour ward with my feet slipping in my shoes and trails of water down the corridor. I was hooked up to monitors and already 5cm dilated at 1:30am. I asked for an epidural but it was so late that by the time she got there I was already 10cm. She put the epidural in but it takes 20 mins to take affect and our dear Rachel was not waiting for anything. I felt that urge to push, they asked me to stop and I was like "um no I dont think so" I mean really u cant stop it, trust me its natural instinct. The pain was something I cant describe, yes its sore but with breathing, walking around etc u can handle it. Trust me!!!!! Dr arrived at 3:15am and our baby was born at 3:35am. Weighing 3.08kg and 51cm. They put her on my chest straight away and I just said "No this cant be it, it was too quick" I thought they had given me someone elses baby until I looked down and saw my tummy was gone. Wow an amazing feeling thats all I can say.
So thats my story, hope I have not left anything out??
We love our precious child so much, we cant get enough of her, she has been really good but I know this is still going to be a long hard road but how worth it!!!!

xxxx

One thing I took is the Rescue tablets by Sister Lilian, its for Birth, labour & recovery it really calmed me down so I would recommend that. Otherwise stay calm, breathing is what got me through and keeping mobile, dont lie down, the pain is worse.
