My birth story : Zhane Botha
The birth of Zhane Botha
I really don’t know where to begin with this one, even though all was planned down to the last minute, everything still feel like it went by in a flash!
We only went to bed after 2am on Monday morning, I could not get myself to go to bed, my emotions were too much of a roller coaster.
We woke up on Monday morning at 6h30, ate breakfast and had some coffee, where after we al started to get ready to leave, we dropped Hanco off at the crèche just after 9 and headed for the hospital.
Upon arrival we went to reception for admittance and then off we went to obstetrics for the necessary observation and afterwards we were send to the maternity ward to the long wait…..
At around 11hoo I was told to get into my very slimming and sexy green theater gown and they administered the drip and catheter.
My C-Section was originally booked for 13h30, but was moved earlier to 13h00, so at 13h20 I was wheeled off to theater, and as I was pushed down the hall, tears streamed down my face as I was overcome by millions of emotions.
We had to wait approx 10 minutes in the pre-theater portion as they where still buzy with another C-Section.
I was pushed into the theater at about 13h00, where they helped me onto the theater table and the anesthesiast started preparing my for the Spinal (which was so sore this time that I started to cry again…). After the spinal, I was laid back onto the table and was given another injection for nausea.
I got a bit sleepy after the spinal and could not keep my eyes open through out the whole C-section. The only thing I remember was the Pediatrician asking hubby if he was planning to take photo’s of the birth, cause if so, he should hurry cause the baby was about to be born, and also hearing those little cries for the very first time!
After Zhane was taken to the nursery and they finished closing me up and stitching me, I was taken back to our room to recover and spend time with my new baba!
Within a few hours after my C-Section I fully recovered from the sleepy-feeling and also had full control back in my legs. The pain was manageable and I received 2 pain-injections. On Tuesday morning, the drip and catheter was removed and I was up and running (as a matter of speech) and fully mobile.
I also started breast feeding as soon as possible and Zhane took to the breast like a little pro!
The whole experience was totally different from the one that I had with my C-Section with Hanco, and I was actually more scared this time as well.
But once again it was an amazing experience and I would not change one bit of detail (ok, maybe the spinal-part)
