Hey Tasha

Welcome to the forum!!!!

As for the weight issue, flip them all the bird. I weighed 57kg my entire life, until I left school.

Fell pregnant in 2008 weighing in at a sturdy 87kg's, and weighing about 100 now. Trying to lose it all, but I always say I'll be thin in heaven so I might enjoy my life as it is now.

for you

Hi Tasha and WELCOME.

As a fellow PCOS sufferer I feel your pain.

I was diagnosed just over 3 years ago and have been ttc for a few months longer than that.

The constant weight battle is a very frustrating one (I am battling too) and it seems to be such a vicious circle. The more weight goes on the more it affects the PCOS yet the PCOS and insulin affect the weight.

I have been with a lovely dietician for a while now and I did very well with her on a low GI diet. Lost almost 13kgs but worked very hard to get there. We had a bit of a rough year last year when my brother in law was tragically killed and as a result of that, excessive cortisol levels and hormone imabalances, I have managed to pick up a little and became stuck. The weight just stopped coming off no matter what I did. The frustration is unbearable.

I am now still with a dietician but trying a different approach and so far I am down 2.4kgs in 3 weeks so am quite happy with that so far. I take it one day at a time and even if I only lose 200g I am happy as anything is better than nothing.

Unfortunately it is the most frustrating road I have ever had to travel as I am so so sick and tired of people looking at me and probably sniggering behind their backs "who ate all the pies"... when I know damn well that I eat well and it is not a case of being a bad eater. Okay, I do admit I could exercise more but in this day and age, who the hell has the time?

I have also had VERY bad experiences with Gynae's and PCOS. I actually think it is out of their league for some!

BUT the Dr that both B-Bat and I are with now made a point of telling me very loud and clear that PCOS does not = infertility! I trust him with my life and I know that he is right. I just have to work harder for what I want!

So, all I can say is you have come to the right place. There are quite a few PCOS suffers here and ladies that have been through horrendous ordeals BUT having said that a lot of them are in the mommy lounge now and have their babies. The support is here and the proof that you must never give up believing. Keep the faith and hope alive and know that you will hold your baby in your arms in time.

Good luck and I look forward to getting to know you better!

Tasha, I think your first thing to do is to find a Dr that acknowledges PCOS and knows how to manage it. Let him/her run all the relevant tests to establish hormone levels, insulin resitance, whether you are ovulating on your own etc and get onto the right treatment for that if need be.

If you are battling with insulin resistance I would also suggest getting onto a low GI eating plan as this really does help with it. It does not have to be a major diet, a way of life that you are comfortable with that incorporates Low GI carbs.

In my case the first gynae I went to never tested anything. I did not ovulate (he did test that) and I never had a period so he said here is a pack of Provera (forces menstruation) and then we will put you onto Clomid (fertility drug) for 3 cycles and come back and see me if nothing happens.

DAH, when I finally had all the tests done with a REAL Dr, it showed that my Progesterone levels were almost non existant which would make it next to impossible for me to fall pregnant and even if by some chance I did, I would miscarry in early stages, so no amount of clomid would have actually done anything. Wasted money, emotions and all that goes with it.

The other thing I would suggest (which we have not done yet but MUST) is to get your husband tested. Let them do a sperm analysis and just check that all is okay there. Often woman go through all the test and it is the husband who actually has a few problems of his own.

Rule out the basics before you start spending fortunes and putting yourself through all the tests.

Things will come right. PCOS just needs to be managed correctly. It is not infertility but just makes things a little harder for us!
