Long awaited Birth story of Yekhethelo
So finally here's my birth story
My C Section was booked for 25 February but my princess couldn't wait any longer. It all started on Thursday 28 Jan, after lunch I started feeling something like weired period pains. But it just didn't come to my mind that I was in labour or something (according to my Dr I was 34 weeks) till I posted and asked on OPM what were those pains all about. And the ladies told me I could be in labour and I must go to the hospital but as soon as I finished posting the pain was gone and only felt 1 contraction in 2 hours or 3 hours. And after going to bed at night it was all gone. So I thought its just my uterus doing the preparations...
. The following day in the morning there was no pain till midday when I started having contractions again, but even then they were soo abnormal then I decided to call my Drs room and reschedule my appointment which was scheduled for 6 Feb to Saturday 30 Jan silly me I didn't tell the midwife who answered the phone why I was rescheduling my appointment. But anyways that Friday I was okay had 1 or 2 contractions before going to bed and as soon as I laid down it was gone.
Saturday came and my appointment was at 12h30, but on that day I didnt have any contractions at all... and I was hesitating to go see the Dr as I was thinking since I was all fine it was just my uterus doing the preps
but anyhow decided to go just to put my mind at ease. DH was going to drop me there as there was some other business he had to take care of (only God knows why this business had to come up this day out of all days)
. He left me at the doctors room and I saw the doctor he examined me, even though I didn't feel any contractions that day he said I had contractions and I was in preterm labour but I wasn't dilating and he said he'll keep me in hospital overnight just for monitoring and observations.
I was so scared and tried to call DH to tell him that I was going to be booked in, only to realize I had left my phone in the car with him
I had to use Drs phone to call him and he was so shocked (I think more than I was)
To cut a long story short, I was given steroids that Saturday and I was put on a drip to try and stop contractions because it was a bit soon we wanted to keep her in at least till 37 weeks. But everything the Dr tried to stop her from coming failed until on Monday morning when he came to check me he decided that we had to do an emergency C section as he saw on the previous night’s report that my baby was starting to be in distress. He asked the sister to put me on the monitor again for an hour and if the baby was still in distress we'll do the C/S right away and if she's fine we'll have to do it after 12h00 because he didn't want to risk my baby's life since it was clear that the little princess didn't want to wait. DH was there as he was hoping that I'd be discharged that morning only to be told we are having our baby that day. After an hour on the monitor the Dr came back and told me that I needed to be prepared for theater. I was so damn scared, the nurses came n started to shave me, put the catheter which I was so scared of. But the nurse that did it was very gently I didn't feel a thing and while they were about to finish the anesthetist came to the ward to wheel me to theater together with the nurses and DH was right there but disappeared as soon as we got in the theater and I was thinking that he changed his mind and decided to run for his dear life
. I wanted to cry, but when I started crying I got distracted by this VERY COLD room... LOL full of people and my doctor came in and told me what was going to happen. Soon after that the anesthetist gave me what he called the 'oxygen pillow' (it was just a pillow) to put on my tummy and put my arms over it and bend. And he started with the spinal
which was again not as bad as I thought it would be just felt a little pinch, a few minuts latter he asked me to lift my legs which I couldn't again while I was lying on the operating table my Dr asked me to do the same and I told him I don’t even know where they are
. Then he started, for some strange reason I felt a bit of pain when he started cutting and I screamed and I started crying. They immediately put me in one of those gas things after a few seconds he asked me if I felt just what he did and I said no. After that I felt the pulling, tangling and the scooping of my insides, not painful though just a bit uncomfortable. I was still crying from the pain I felt before but mostly from that DH left me all alone and I had to go through all that by myself
. The anesthetist was very kind though as he was by my side and wiped my tears throughout... After a very few minutes they told me that I was about to hear my daughters' 1st cry... @ 10h51 I had the most amazing beatiful cry
. It was the most amazing cry I ever heard... I was still crying by that time, but then my tears turned to tears of joy. I didn't see her right away as they had to quickly suction her 1st and all that stuff. They soon brought her to me AND DH was there with her smiling, she was still crying. As soon as they brought her to me I spoke to her and amazingly when she heard my voice she stopped crying
. The warmth and love I felt for her was so amazing!!! DH was there all the time looking at the whole procedure...
They took her for a bath and to be placed in an incubator for 2 hours. I was stitched which took forever and taken to recovery for 20 minutes, then back to the ward. When I was wheeled back to the ward, we met my father in the corridor and he happily told me that he had seen his grand daughter and she's the most beautiful thing he's ever seen. I was so happy... Back in the ward they cleaned me but all I wanted was to see and hold my baby. After an agonizing hour of waiting with Dh and my father they brought her in... Gosh indeed my father was right.. She was the most beautiful baby I’ve ever seen!
