weight gain during twin pregnancy?
Hi ladies,
i am very curious to know how much of weight u gained while pregnant with your twins.
reason for asking is that i have a friend also pregnant with twins and hasn't seem to be enjoying her pregnancy so far (long story) but i find it a bit worrying that she is ultra conscious (sp) of her weight and figure. she has only put on 4kg and is already in her 7th month of pregnancy
just wondering if it is healthy.

UM are you sure she is not pregnant with twin apples... 4kg seems way too little.
I was wondering there for a second if you wanted to tell us something....

Re: weight gain during twin pregnancy?
was she overweight beforehand? What does her Dr say? I put on 17kg by 34 weeks when they were born. My Dr was very happy with my weight gain. Like Eve - lost most of it 2 months after birth. (although I seem to be a different shape now and things are not quite as firm as they used to be!!)

Thanks ladies. i'm not to sure what her Dr thinks about it, but for me it was concerning coz it's like she's doing everything not to put on weight!

18kgs by 34 weeks.
For a healthy twin pregnancy you are supposed to put on about 20kgs.

Re: weight gain during twin pregnancy?
Hi, i had a different scenario...
I was not overweight when i fell pregnant.... had a good pregnancy and ate healthy
I struggled to gain weight and up till my 4th month i did not pick up anything.
By my 5th month i gained a little bit (2kgs) and by my 7/8th month it slowly started picking up.
all in all i gained around 8kgs in the end of 38 weeks when the girls were born healthy and average 2,5 kilo's each
In the beginning doc said i should not worry about the low weight gain, but later-on while in my 3rd trimester he started getting worried that the girls are growing fine but i am not gaining weight as expected.... think:
So he prescribed preggy shakes and vitamins etc which i drank religiously - he said that you need to gain weight to have the "reserves" to be able to breastfeed etc.... At the end i did struggle with breastfeeding (to little milk)... can be many reasons for that....
*maybe the little weight gain
*can also be the irregular stimulation in the beginning
*stress of trying to BF 2 babies....crying for food
*The sisters in hospital giving me the "sentence" that i would never be able to BF both kids
*So my mindset was wrong and in the end i did BF but had never more than 60ml per child. :
So in then end my verdict to you is...
I tried cheescakes, chocolates, cappachinos with cream.... proteien shakes.... all of it... and i could not increase my weight gain.
After the birth(after a couple of weeks) i was 5kilo's lighter than before .
Today i realise i was lucky, in my case low weight gain was not so bad... and long as you know you are eating healthy and the babies are growing well and according to your pregnancy you should not worry too much.

Re: weight gain during twin pregnancy?
I only gained 10.9 kg in pregnancy - I ate totally normal and according to what I craved. I only craved healthy though - totally went off sweets and mayonnaise (oh my favourite!!!) - craved oranges and other fruits. Towards the end I ate more carbs though (again, I ate what my body wanted)
Of course I had them at 32 weeks and mine were only 1.59 and 1.85 kg.
I lost it all by 5 months and then put a good few kg on now and now I'm again trying to lose weight from the post-preg and from the fertility meds.
I read somewhere that you're supposed to put on between 15 and 20 kg to prevent premature labour, but then again, a friend did that and still she had hers early too. So who knows?!

Re: weight gain during twin pregnancy?
LOL
I don't know how people eat "healthy" during pregnancy if that's not what the baby wants.
I was TOTALLY at the mercy of my body during that time (it was actually nice ;)), energy-wise and eating-wise

Re: weight gain during twin pregnancy?
I dont think that "old wives tale" of gaining lots of kilo's to avoid premature labour....
I battled to gain "alot of weight" and carried to 38 weeks.....

Re: weight gain during twin pregnancy?
I gained 6kg and my girls were delivered at 32 and half weeks. My little weight gain was attributed to the fact that I vomited all day every day till I was admitted for pre-term labour at 27 and bit weeks and then got put onto prescription anti-nausea medication. I couldnt eat anything ... or at least keep anything down for long enough.
By the time I went home on day 3 post C-sec I weighed 2kg less then when I fell pregnant ... and I continued loosing weight (due to stress) till I was eventually around 48kg .... I put it all back on and am around 51kg now

Re: weight gain during twin pregnancy?
TamMcK, I would LOVE to be 2kg less than I was when I fell pregnant because it would mean I'd lost the fertility meds weight!
