Toys

Post by DJMommy on Wed 22 Sep 2010 - 12:29

Hi ladies

Just wanted to know your thought on toys: When they were younger, did you buy them the same toys or did you buy different toys for your twinnies?

I bought some toys today for the boys (rattles etc) and ended up buying some the same and some different, so that there was more of a variety to play with.
I assume when they reach the toddler stage I would have to buy them the same things so as not to avoid jealousy? But what did you do when they were younger?

I only have 1 of everything at the moment. Just can't afford to get 2 of everything! Eve - when they are small they are not possessive. I found from about 1 year onwards they started to squabble over toys. When this happens I try to distract the 1 with something else. They do each have their "favourite" things. Eg Michael is obsessed with bottles and their lids. So I keep all old empty deoderant cans, shampoo and body cream containers and this keeps him happy for a while! Cheap toys are often the most effective!

Thanks Wendy! Yes, I found that they love the rattles from Pep stores - R5.99. It's colourful, makes a noise and light enough for them to pick up!!

For now different is fine, they are still young. I bought mostly two of the cheap things, the bigger more expensive toys there is only one and well they can kill each other but they have to learn to share.

I find that the boys can have THREE IDENTICAL things (cups, cars, tshirt) and they will STILL fight over which one belongs to who...

Eve Like Wendy said - when they were young and still now I don't buy alot of toys - it is just too expensive

But I always buy the same things from day one, even the clothes and some times I will just buy different colours and by now they know that green is for Montinique and green for Montine as for their bottles also.
If I buy pink and purple, they also know whos whos.

I buy different stuff. Just too expensive, and mine will still fight over one specific toy even if there is two of the same. Somehow they just always want whatever is in the other ones hands. They don't care if they both have the same. We have so many fights these days sowwy

Although I am not a twin mom, I can say that at this age, I wouldnt think they'd know the difference.

However, Nicholas now is hugely interested in whatever Cameron has in his hands and is quite fervent about snatching if he possibly can. A tug of war between a 4 year old and a nine month old is quite something to witness. Nicholas grunts and growls he is so determined.

Eve, you should avoid being sucked into the fancy toys that are well marketed by big companies as being "educational". I tell you what, Cameron and Nicholas are just as dazzled and entertained by Tiny Love's gimmicks as toys from the Crazy Store. And the expensive ones dont necessarily last any longer!

So, I think you're right on the money buying bits and bobs for R5 from Pep!

Ai Wendy, We have exactly the same headache. Bjorn is also the bully. He also got a smack from me last week, cause he just slapped Carmen in her face, also to get a toy. She is terrified of him, if he just comes near her she starts to cry!

Grantn was always the one who was bullied when they were smaller and then one day he stood his ground and flipped... now the brothers know not to mess with him, give Grace and Carmen a chance, one day they will just flip their lid and said bullies will realise that they are a force nto be reckoned with, LOL

Most of the girl's toys are different.
They do each have their own doll (looking exactly the same) and did not fight over the dolls yet.
i believe the girls should learn to share. they also have their own "favourites".....
Nica is a do-kid.... she wants to take things and do stuff with it (take a bike and ride; take a bag and unpack; attention span on one thing is not very long.
Kiana is the thinker... she will take one thing and figure it out for hours...

Crazy store really have cool toys, and old deodorant caps and tupperware / plastics make the best toys.

I do agree that a box, empty tin, containers, pots and pans and the likes make the best and least costly toys... and it keeps their attention for longer than a expensive toy
