Bum cream
This might sound dumb but do u use it all the time or only for nappy rash? We never put anything on Rach and her ass has been okay? I only use vaseline if she makes a big poo.

Re: Bum cream
I use Bennetts every time and if her bum is a little red from teething or what ever I use Sodecrem (sp)

Oh wow maybe I should also then? What does it really do if there is no rash though?

Re: Bum cream
I never used bum creams unless their bums looked like they needed it. I used Vasceline to soothe

Re: Bum cream
I have only use petroleum jelly (vaseline), only bethpathean or multipeol for nappy rash. Vaseline keeps them dry and protects against wetness. It is soothing and safe you a lot of money as well.

Re: Bum cream
We use bennets bum cream or the fissan paste cream after every poo nappy and D has never had a nappy rash even if he was teething.
My dad told me not to use it.
I think it also has to do with which brand of nappies you use

Re: Bum cream
We don't use at every nappy change. Use Bepanthen if her bum needs something.

Re: Bum cream
I think it depends on the sensitivity of the child. I use Bennets at night as a barrier when I'm not going to do a nappy change now. But when he was small I but it on with every nappy change.

Re: Bum cream
Tarryn, we were "taught" to use bum cream at every change (this is in the NICU) BUT..........
I'm too lazy and it's expensive.
So about 5 months in, I started slacking off. Used up all the proper bum cream and now we use Vaseline (but the nice-smelling baby ones).
Although I read in the Pampers marketing material that you don't need bum cream if you use Pampers
... We do use Pampers.
Oh, our kids have never had a nappy rash. I actually have a tub of Fissan paste that I've used once or twice when the bum started looking like it wanted to go "funny"

Re: Bum cream
After every change. It creates a barrier between skin & nappy preventing a rash caused by excess moisture. lately I've been slacking off a bit, but a few weeks ago both babies had diahrroeah from teeting and Michael got a bad rash so i went back to using it after every change.

By the way ladies, at Baby City the 500ml Bennets bum cream is selling for R50! I think that is quite a good price but not sure...

I don't use anything unless her little bum is a bit red, then use the honey one or sudocreme ...

Re: Bum cream
I still prefer to use cream (normally bennets) with every nappy change, it's like second nature.
And then I use a special mix for the odd times that he has had a rash...
