The arrival of baby Zanelle

I can't believe I'm posting a second birth story!

8 October 2010:

We got up at 04:00 the friday morning, nerves were shot! I couldn't sleep at all the previous night. We left for the hospital at 05:20, we had to be booked in by 05:30. When we got there the nurses helped me fill in all the forms, I got my armbands and I had to check Zanelle's bands as well. I still couldn't believe this day has finally arrived! Next they put in the drip, which was horrible. After the 4th try they finally got it right.

We waited and waited and eventually at 07:30 they came to fetch me. I was so scared I started shaking.
Had to wait a while as they were still busy with another c-sec. Just as they were to push us in the power went out and it was completely dark for a couple of seconds. Not what you need on a day like this - I was scared and nervous enough already!!

In the theatre, I crouched forward so they could do the spinal. Took first time and I didn't feel anything. My legs started to tingle and I had to lie down quickly. Hubby was so nervous (again) he couldn't take the pictures . The dr who did the spinal had to take them. He joked around with us and chatted to us. And the next moment they showed her to me, she gave 3 little squeeks. She was gorgeous and I was so relieved that she was ok. My blood pressure dropped a bit and when they stitched me up I was a little dizzy. But nothing serious.

The paed left with Z and hubby was behind them and it was horrible lying there without them. I made one of the doctors find out how much she weighed, I just couldn't wait to find out. She was a healthy 3.035kg, 46cm long and got 9/10 for all her apgar tests.

I must say, recovery is a bit harder for me the 2nd time around. But worth every minute.
