Stupid Question

Post by sonsug on Thu 17 Mar 2011 - 16:30

when are you in the 2ww period. How many days after I dont know, ovulation, last period. Sorry for my ignorance but first time around I waited 3 yrs and we found out I was pregnant because I was finally Late! then too the two bloody lines were barely visible.
But I'm thinking now that we actively trying again I need to know this stuff properly - donot want to wait so long again.

There's no such thing as a stupid question. Normal cycles are about 28 days long. You usually ovulate around CD14 and thereafter you are in the 2 week wait. I'd suggest charting your temperatures. Start from CD1 (the day you start bleeding), take your temperature the moment you wake up (a digital thermometer works best) and plot it on a chart (you can download charts from the web). If I remember correctly, your temp will go up when ovulating (or a day or two before, I'm a little rusty). Hope this helps!

I agree, tracking your temp is the best way to always know what's happening with your body that you can never tell by looking only for symptoms.
Some ladies experience a temp dip shortly before ovulation and a spike the next day. I used Fertility Friend to chart online (see my signature for the link) , it works great and even tells you when you ovulated, only down side, it only tells you once you have allready ovulated, which is too late for conception purposes, but combining it with ovulation predictor tests you should be fine. It works like a pregnancy test BUT the test line needs to be just as dark or darker than the control line to be positve. start using them around cycle day 10 and keep using it the same time everyday (late afternoon/early evening is best) untill you get a positive. Your temp should spike the next day.

You can buy a digital body basal thermometer from the get pregnant website, it costs R99 and works great. (more sensitive than the normal ones) Ovulation predictor kits or test (OPKs) can be bought from clicks or dischem, get yourself atleast 5 - 10 of them.

Also, most important, start taking folic acid!! Vitabiotics has a product called ' Pregnacare Conception ' it's very good and I got pregnant the first month I used it. it helps regulate the important hormones needed for successfull conception and inplantation. They're also R100 at Clicks pharmacies.

Good luck!! I hope you have a short TTC journey!!

I don't know the technical details, taking temps etc, but normally as far as I understood it, the 2 weeks between when you ovulated and when your next period is due, is considered the 2ww.

As you ovulate 14 days BEFORE your next AF, regardless of your cycle length. If that makes sense.

cool ladies - thanks for the info. I think this also means that right now i'm in 2ww! Smiley
But... its the first month so no getting excited just yet. And ifs its not this time then at least I can use the temps, opk's to guide me next time round. Funny how I can feel more relaxed, positive 2nd time round knowing how stressful it was the first time..

Mmmm, Monzie, it's supposed to work like that, but unfortunately it doesn't always. AF can start anything from about 10 days after ovulation.
