Strollers

Post by Sash on Thu 7 Apr 2011 - 10:25

As a mom expecting twins, I have to buy a whole lot of new baby equipent suitable for my 2 babies, including a double pram/stroller, camp cots, beds etc.!!

Please tell me what has worked, or didn't work, for you.

I have to decide on a double pram/stroller.......tandum or side by side? And please give me reasons for the one you like or dislike.

Also, the twins will stay in the same room, do I put them on a double bed or 2 single beds?? (later when they're old enough that is)

Do I put them in the same camp cot at first or each in their own?? And in our room or their own??

Although I have a toddler of 3 1/2, this is a completely new experience to me and I feel so clueless!!

Hi Sash

I would recommend the Maclaren side by side stroller. That pram fits through all doors and folds up to u decent size and is quite light weight.

My boys were in their own room from day 1. In the beginning they shared a cot, but I moved them to their own cots when they were about 1 and a half month old, as I had to raise Daniels matress due to his reflux etc.
They are still in their cots but when they are old enough to get 'big beds', I will get 2 single beds.

Shame hun, it is very overwhelming, but it will all fall in to place. Have you registered with SAMBA yet?

You can ask as many questions as you need to!

SAMBA - South African Multiple Birth Association. Loads of information there, you also meet up with other multiple moms etc etc. Google it!
I tried keeping 'mum' about my pregnancy until 12 weeks, but I showed early and people were getting suspicious from about 10 weeks.
I never breast fed. I never got enough milk in, so it was formula from day 1 for them

HI

The maclaren is good but I prefer the city mini cause teh wheels are nice and big and it is easier to push and it also goes through doors. but also look at second hand prams. It is worth buying second hand. I got car seats from a friend I trusted so that was a big save.

Both my boys shared a camp cot till 7 months when they were too big to lie across the cot. They say it is good for them to be near each other.

Persever witht he BF it is worth it (money wise) ask for those pills that help your milk come in. also remember it can take 6 days to come in.

Be prepared for anything during your pregnancy too as most of the people I know developed complications at some point and spent more or less time in hospital. You will have to let your boss know so he is prepared. And finally they may be prem adn that is OK at lot ofthe twins here were premadn are doign fine. I think only Eve adn Page were lucky.

Thanx Kerry, I'll keep all this in mind! My boss already knows I'm expecting twins and although she's not a very 'warm' person, I don't expect her to be difficult, her 1st grandson is 8 weeks old and her daughter stays with her, so I think it helps that she's been through a pregnancy with her daughter recently!

My gynae said he'll give me something for my milk later on 'cause I really want to BF them for as long as I can.

What brand is the city mini pram? I guess we'll have to go to Pta for that, we only have a Baby Boom in Rustenburg and it's not very big!!

What 'surprises' did you have in you pregnancy? I'm so very scared of the next 6 months, I actually want to cry everytime I think about it. I'm NOT in tip top shape and has high BP, I had cervical cancer and a part of my cervix had to be removed, so you can imagine, a twin pregnacy will not be the easiest thing for me to go through!!

I had a stitch put in at about 18 weeks as my cervix was shortening

I'm thinking of that, but heard it has it's own risks? Was yours done in theatre? When did they remove it and how?

I'm just so scared and can't stop thinking that something is going to happen to my babies. It's still so unreal and I don't even want to start buying things for the 2 as I'm too scared that something will happen to them! When will I come to terms with it and enjoy my pregnancy!! I feel guilty for not trusting and believing that they will be fine but can't stop!

I just read all the posts in the 'Welcome' section and noticed that 99% of the babies had to stay in NICU for weeks!!
