Lyla's arrival

Post by Lizzy on Wed 11 May 2011 - 9:29

My little angel is almost 6months now so I fugured it's about time I post my birth story. So here goes....

We were scheduled for an induction on the 18th Nov because my bp was verrrry high and doc said she was big enough to come now.
So at about 4:30am on the morning of the 18th I decided I was ready to go - I showered, shaved and peed and waited for dh to get done. At this point it was exhausting to move from the bedroom to the bathroom and I was peeing every 30mins! I was sooooooo ready for this baby to come, my feet were swollen and my fingers were like sausages and I could feel my bp was high - I was just extremely uncomfortable and wanted to meet this little person.
At 5:30 we were finally ready to go to the hospital, just had to pee first :Embarassed
at 5:45 we were there, trying to book in, they couldn't find my file, I needed to pee.
Eventually everything done they take me to my room and tell me to put on my hospital gown and lie down. I change, I pee again, I lie down and they strap on that monitor thingy. The sister comes to check the machine and says "How long have you been having contractions?" I said "What contractions?" :Shocked
She walks away... blink

The other sister comes in and starts taking my BP - it was something ridiculous like 120/190 - I ask her if everything is okay, she walks away..... blink

They leave me alone for almost and hour????? WTF?? why am I waiting? shouldn't they be giving me the drugs to induce? Whats Happening? I need to pee....

They come back together (the 2 nurses) and tell me in a very serious voice that I need to have a c-section - I ask why and the one nurse says "your baby is in distress, you bp is too high to put you through natural birth!" :affraid

I look at DH and he looks at me (we both knew I didn't want a c-sec) we know there isn't really a choice, so "okay"
Then comes the fun part, they come into to put in the drip, dry shave me again and insert the catheter :Shocked
That wasn't very comfortable!! but at least I didn't need to pee anymore!! blink
Finally around 8:30 my Doctor comes in all cheerful and bright eyed, pats me on the hand and says "everything is going to be okay, baba is just in a hurry to get here."
DH has to go put on his scrubs, I get wheeled out to theatre - I AM TERRIFIED :affraid :affraid :affraid
and now I'm all alone to think about what is going to happen - I didn't prepare for this, I didn't read about c-sections because I WASN'T GOING TO HAVE ONE! :Worry
DH returns, he looked so cute in his scrubs Wub and he was all teary eyed, I knew he was just as afraid as I was, but he just smiled at me and stroked my hair and cracked jokes huh

They take me into the Theatre - and the anaethetist comes in to start the spinal :affraid it doesn't go in right, they do it again, it still doesn't go in right, they change the needle and try again. They say please stay calm - The effing needle has been re-inserted into my back 4 effing times - let me stab you 4 times and tell you to remain calm!

It finally works, starts taking effect, all is well with the world again Rolling Eyes
The doctors come in, they put up the little tent/cloth thing over my belly - "Can you feel anything?" "Nope"
"And this?" just a bit of pushing and it's a bit uncomfortable but "no, not really...."

at 09:35 am "Waaaaaaawaaawaaaaaaaaa" My little angel was born, it was the most beautiful sound I had ever heard! My DH is blubbering, "you did great babe! You did great" tears streaming down his face, the biggest wobbliest smile I ever saw him make Wub
I'm just a big mushy, "is my baby okay? Is everything okay?" more tears.... Crying or Very sad
DH goes over to cut the cord, he is shaking so much I hear the sister tell him to take a breath and just relax.
I just want to see my baby - they bring her over to me - I'm in love Wub

Aw Lizzy! Sorry you didnt have your natural. I think I would have been terrified as well if this had to happen to me. Because like you, I also never read about c-sections etc... And frankly was not interested! LOL.

But I am happy that all worked out well and your Little Angel was ok! And can you believe it? It's almost 6months ago!!!

Well done Lizzy!

So sorry you didn't get the birth you wanted, but she is safe and beautiful and that's all that counts.
