My first of a million questions...Erdna/Funky?

Post by Honey on Tue 3 Mar 2009 - 15:59

Okay so I'm supposed to post this in the parenting forum but things look a bit quiet here ad I know Funky and Erdna always hang out here, maybe some of you could help.

I had to start feeding Lee alternative bottles of Nan, as my nipples got so sore I had to express (I was afraid he would get enough of the "aftermilk" so I introduced formula for just in case). It seems he is hungry ALL the time, he is constantly feeling around with his mouth when I pickhim up and moans when he inds nothing. i try to feed him three hourly with the right amount of formula and as much breastmilk as he wants. I was put onblood pressure tablets which seemed to diminish the milk. I now get about 100mls altogether from both breast so he is now completely on Nan, and I still express the little milk I have and add it to the formula he takes so he at least gets a little breast milk. He seems to be full sometimes but other times it's not even two hours before he starts moaning again and "soek" with his mouth. I don't want to feed overfeed him as this will make him fat and he is not constipated at all, he took to the formula like a duck to water.

I've heard cooled boiled water is okay for small babies. Is this so and how much should I give? I also have this packet of Carmien Rooibos tea in the cupboard which says its safe for newborns, have any of you given it to your babies?

Any suggestions to make him last his three hours between feeds?

Sorry to hijack your post

I had the exact same problem with my LB who is now 5 months old, he still ate every 3 hours even though I was mixing the formula with breastmilk, what I did find is that he was on S26 and we moved to S26 gold - I don't know if it's strong or just a coincidence but that seemed to extend the feeds to every 4 hours!

I would also feed him, burp him and then carry on feeding him and also found when he "looked for boob" sometimes he actually just wanted to use it as a dummy so I got a dummy (which I was against) ~

Hope that helps a bit

yes also remember he smells your breast, that is why they say if you want to breastfeed let someone else give him a bottle and you only breast! dummy is not so bad, it helps them to calm!!!

Okay I'll finish the Nan and then switch over to S26. I only tried the Nan first as my sister was on Nan so its the only brand I know. I also hated the idea of a dummy but also started giving him one the last ten minutes before a feed which seem to help a bit. Thanks so much for the advice, at this moment my entire day consists off either feeding, preparing a feed, or trying to get milk from my breasts.

I remember reading in one of the posts that if he does become constipated I should add a olive oil to his feeds? How much and does it work?

Honey sorry I can't help with the tea or the water but what nipple creams are/have you used (ing)? I have tried THE LOT and the one that really worked miracles is LANSINOH.

I finally got the Lansinoh and it is absolutely wonderful. All the mommies should put it sommer in the hospital bag. I also put on Bepnathen which helps alot too. Did you see the Lansinoh breast pads.....

oooh I dunno about the olive oil, but what does work is A LITTLE and I stress the words A LITTLE bit of brown sugar, as in less than a quater of a teaspoon helps with constipation! My LB got constipated and I also read brown sugar so I put half a teaspoon in and he pooped so much that it ran down his legs and everywhere - so I called the paed and he said it works very well but only use the tip of a teaspoon!

Some say you can use prune juice, but be careful cos it can give the LO's stomach cramps

Also the S26 gold is closer to breastmilk and it's not to much more expensive.

I remember the first month - and the preparing bottles, feeding and then preparing bottles sounds so familiar!

Hey girl I wouldn't put olive oil into his feeds at all his little system is too sensitive for that now. Kaylie used to guzzle 200ml breast milk at a time and that would last her 4 hours, with the bottle we used Lactogen we found 50ml wasn't enough for her so we gave her 100ml which did the trick and she'd feed every six hours. I found in the first few weeks that is all I did was feed and I felt like a freaking dairy cow!!!! Try using a dummy sometimes they just want to suck on something and if you let him use your boob as a dummy you'll never get him off the boob!!!!!
