Tip for bathing a new born
This was something very nice that my MIL taught me. Kaylie screamed her head off when they bathed her at the hospital but she loved her bath when my MIL bathed her at home for the first few days.
1. heat up 2 towls a oil fin heater works best, make sure room is warm as well, also warm up babys clothes at the same time.
2. when you undress your baby put her on the 1 warm towl and then proceed to soap her down (wash her) while still lying on the towl.
3. bath baby in warm water.
4. when you take baby out the bath put her on the other warm towl, dry her and then put the warmed clothes on her and then wrap her in a receiver blanket.
Because you haven't put baby on any cold surfaces (they hate it and it gets them very rattled & irritable) she will feel calm and cosy and be ready for a bottle and sleep.

NB!!!!NB!!!!NB!!!! Sorry I just forgot to add that when you warm babys clothes especially the vests and the babygrows with the metal snaps just check that they are not too hot before you dress her because you can burn baby with them and then she'll howl all night!!!!

Re: Tip for bathing a new born
what also helps a lot
1) use baby cream mixed with the warm bath water and wash them with that - you don't need to put cream on afterwards
2) warm a face cloth in the bath water and while you rinse them off put the face cloth over their little tummies
thank goodness the hospital I had my LB at taught us to bath them before we left

Re: Tip for bathing a new born
Thanks Funky. Was wondering about the whole bath story in July. I just remember my little nephew screaming his head off at bath time. He was also born in July! Freezing - brrrrrr

I want to add that it might be an idea to warn the neighbours your about to bath him or her. Zander screams his head off and I always wonder wether social services are going to come knocking within the hour....

Honey, I know exactly how you feel, Damion use to start screaming, then the dogs would start barking our neighbour actually knocked on the door to check everything was ok and there I was soaked from head to toe, with a screaming baby wrapped in a towl... Thank goodness he has a grandchild and understood that I wasn't drowing my poor little boy! But try the warm face cloth, it worked wonders for me

Re: Tip for bathing a new born
At our last ante-natal class, they said you can actualy also try to bath the baby still wrapped in the towel, if they don't like bathing or being exposed if you will. Put them in the water wrapped in the towel and slowly open one side, wash him and close, open the other side and then wash and close, and then slowly and clamly take him out after a while and put in warm dry towel, somehow they feel snugg and safe that way...
