Ava's birth story

Post by Katherine on Sat 6 Jun 2009 - 17:07

Hi all

Thanks for updating everyone, Niks.

Well, was due to go into hospital on Thursday night at midnight for an induction. Wednesday night while lying in bed, I feel a very sharp kick and am then aware of a very little bit of fluid (was expecting a gush, Jahni!!). Go to the bathroom and a definite trickle, try and wake DH, who is very confused and also expecting a gush (that's doctors for you). Anyway, too terrified to leave the bathroom, in case of the great gush, so start directing a still confused DH at what still needs to go in the "bag" as well as phoning my mom to come over and be with Zoe. Arrive at the hospital about 12pm and getting frequent, quite painful contractions. Midwife checks and I'm about 3-4cm dilated - a little disappointed not to be further, but glad things have started. Contractions start getting rather painful so ask for an epidural and the doc comes at about 1.30pm - what bliss - a brilliant epidural as I could still move and feel the contraction sensation a little without any pain. Have a little nap and when midwife checks at 4am - I'm fully dilated - WOW. Stop epidural, sit up a bit, phone doctor and after a few pushes Ava arrived safe and sound - weighing 3.44kg and 51cm tall with dark hair - very different from her blonde/bald sister that was 57 cm and weighed 3,22kg. We are now safely home and all is going well (sure rough times are ahead). Staff at St Georges were great and Ava is feeding well. Still waiting for my milk to arrive properly!!!
Will update again but now have a 2 year old trying to pry me away so I'll be off.
Love Katherine

Nice story Katherine, you don't seem to have suffered.
I still wonder though as to how you knew it was time especially if you don't see the water gushing...
but i'm glad all went well hey...

Hi!!

By the way, Ava and her sister are both too gorgeous.

Sorry for misleading you about the waters breaking!! Remember, Nicci was breech, so I didn't have a little head plugging the water works Laughing

I'm so glad for you that everything worked out so beautifully.
