Hi friends and bellies!

It is my great pleasure and honour to introduce you to my daughter - Hannah Myra Kruger



As you already know - on Fri 12/06 my gynae decided that I would unfortunately would not be able to carry Hannah to term and was booked for my c-section at 36 weeks, on Mon 15 June.
My sister managed to get a flight from PE on Sunday night to be here to help the overwhelmed mommy to be. After repacking our hospital bags a million times, we decided to get a bit creative...


We were up at 4 am on Monday, at arrived at the hospital at 6am. I was admitted to the maternity ward, and then just waited to hear when I would be going in. My doc arrived around 8, and popped his head in - and said that "today we are going to have a jol"...

Well they only came to fetch me for theatre at 12h00, I was left in the "waiting area". My sister was directed to the change rooms to go change into the theatre outfits, and on her way back could'nt find me. She said to one of the nurses she was looking for "her sister who was having a c sec" The nurse enquired who my gynae was - and as she couldnt remember his name, she said - "the doc that cuts really fast" (my gynae has a reputation of being the fastest surgeon... the nurse knew exactly who he was and sent her to theatre six. She ofcourse went in to find doc busy with an op. She then realised she was in someone else's operation, and after wondering around she finally found me.

I was wheeled into theatre adn moved onto the bed. The anethetist did the spinal block (which i found to be terribly painful!) and immeditely after the spinal they inserted the catheter - which i could still feel happening - not pleasant - but it was almost over. My legs started going warm, and I had pins and needles in my feet. They put up the screen in front of my face, and suddenly I felt a sharp pain - like a blade cutting! And suddenly realised that the spinal was not working. At first they did not believe me - thought I was just feeling the pressure of him pushing . But when he cut a second time - they realised i wasnt bullshitting. he then immediately put the gas mask on - and started p/url]putting me under. i just yelled at my sister to make sure she goes with Hannah and make sure they put my name on her, and that she is healthy



I woke up in recovery - and was in a lot of pain. They had given me a shot of morphine - so couldnt get anything else for the pain. I was back in the ward at 14h30. My daughter was brought to me immediately - and I just lay there with her in my arms marvelling at how amazing she was! She weighed 3.2kg, 47cm. Her apgar was 10/10 - and she was so quiet and relaxed!
The rest of the stay in hospital was pretty horrid - they left the catheter in, but it had started leaking - and as I was bleeding rather badly the nurses didnt belive me. When they came to "clean" us all at around 20h00 - she realised it was leaking. They did not take it out - just whipped my legs open, washed my vjay jay with vigour - and put a maternity pad between my legs! it wasnt until 5 the next morning that t]hey finally took the blinking thing out! I got up immediately and had a shower. I went to fetch Hannah in the baby room - and just spend the dsy staring at her. She was unfortunately jaundiced on day 3 - and had to spend a night in the incubator under ultra violet light.



I had absolutely no milk and was unfortunately unable to breast feed. I was given medication to stimulate the milk, and by Thursday my breasts were so completely engorged - a nightmare. I was given a physio therapy session to try sort out the engorgement. when we went home on Thursday - they lent me an electric breast pumpto stimulate my bb's. Yesterday I funally had my first bit of colostrum coming out - and today another 30ml! Great excitement!

Well all is going well -have had a few scares - hiccups that wont stop, vomiting that stops her breathing and just normal new mommy issues! But it is truly awesome - and i wouldnt swop it for the world!

OMW!! sorry that you you had to go thru all that!! you hear about this in movies, now you & Tammi had the same experience, eekk! If you dont me asking, what hospital? but I must say, you have a beautifull little girl! May she bring you, much joy!!

Aaaaah Deb when I read all these birth stories it scares the living daylights out of me but there is no way I would change my mind because when all you mommies tell your stories you can actually feel the love! Congrats mom Deb!

The whole birthing things sounds like a nightmare, but glad your milk is coming in and you have a very healthy girl in your arms!

NOT Nice... what is it with the Dr's / anethetists not making entirely sure that the spinal is working before actually going ahead & cutting a person????

Deb the fact that you and I lost our first babies to similar syndromes at around the same time and then were both due with our little girls on the same day makes me feel so close to you, so excuse the tears streaming down my face right now (not like you can see them).

I am sorry the spinal did not work, that the nurses left you for so long & the milk production issues but I am so so happy for you that Hannah is happy and healthy and arrived safely and prefectly to you. Your story makes me that much more excited for my CS date next week and can not wait to share our LG milestones together.
