Tip for bathing new borns and baby in winter

Post by Funky on Thu 25 Jun 2009 - 12:58

Most babies hate being bathed because of the ice cold surfaces you put them on and the ice cold towls and clothes you put on them.

Before you undress your baby for the bath warm up two towls either by placing them over a oil fin heater at the same time you are also warming the room up. Make sure there are no cold breezes blowing into the room. Also place the clothes that you are going to put on your baby on the heater being care full to not let the metal snappies on the clothes touch the heater and get hot as they will burn baby.

Run a bowl of hot water and put it next to your changing/bathing station (for new borns).

Once the towls have warmed up place baby fully clothed on the warm towl and then undress her. If new born use the hot water to warm your hands before soaping her down. Then carry baby wrapped in the warm towl to the bath and let the towl drop off and quickly put her in the bath. Once baby is ready to get out the bath ask someone (I ask William, it makes him feel very useful & important) to bring you the second warm towl. Wrap baby and then take her to your changing station while she is still wrapped in the warm towl cream and powder her (if you use powder) I sprinkle powder onto a cloth nappy and then just wipe Kaylie arround her neck, under her arms and all her sweaty areas to keep them dry. Then dress baby into the warm clothes, and now you have a warm happy content and snug as a bug baby.

To warm up the soap or whatever you're washing baby with you can just put it in the bath water for a bit - it doesn't make it hot, it just takes that "icy feeling" out of it

same with baby lotion, just drop the bottle into the bath water, by the time you are done bathing your LO, the baby lotion is nice & warm, no need to rub it between your hands.
