The birth of Wade and Erin
Monday, 22 June 2009 went by all to fast. Before I knew it, my best friend, Jenni-lyn was fetching me as I was to spend the night at her house as she was accompanying me into threatre.
We woke up at 3:30 am and I was still calm and relaxed. Before I knew it,it was time to leave for hospital. I checked in at 5:00 and was admitted to labour ward where blood pressure, pulse and babies heart beats were checked.
I was given anti acid meds to prevent reflux whilst c-section was being performed. I was put on a drip and at 7:00 wheeled down to threatre. I started shaking like a leaf and crying, nerves had kicked in and more than anything else I wished that my mom was there to experience the birth of her grandchildren.
The anethesist was fantastic not to mention good looking. He explained exactely what was going to happen and assured me that none of his patients had ever complained of pain. Ha, I thought. There is always a first.
Then it was time. I was wheeled into theatre with Jenni-lyn accompanying me. I was put on the theatre bed and assisted so that I could sit up. A Sister explained exactely what the anaethesist was doing and the sensations I would feel. I felt no pain or discomfort. It was a breeze. My legs turned to jelly and they helped open them up to insert the catheter - felt nothing.
The only down side of the entire c-section was the nausea. It set in in a bad way. I felt the terrible urge to vomit (TMI). Anaethesist kept talking to me and assured me as soon as the babies were out, I would feel better. He also inserted something into my drip and instant relief.
The next minute Wade cried as he was lifted out of my tummy, I started crying, mother instincts had kicked in. He was born at 7:46 measuring 46cm and weighing 2.5kg. Seconds later, Erin was lifted out of my tummy and she cried and cried. Tiny little thing. She weighed 1.880kg, 44cm tall.
They went and weighed them and cleaned them up and brought my two precious babies to me and put them on either side of me, I just stared at them and cried.
They were put in an incubator and wheeled off. Jenni-lyn followed them whilst my gynae stitched me up.
I went into recovery at 8:10 - 40 min after entering theatre.
By then I was feeling 100% and very happy. By9:00 I had all the sensation back in my legs and was given pethadine for pain.
The rest of the day was wonderful, with lots of flowers and warm messages of congratulations. I was offically a mummy!

Re: The birth of Wade and Erin
Thanks so much for posting your story, and I pray that both babas will be home in a heartbeat.
Btw: I managed to splash myself in the eye with the antacid (what a dork), and it stung like hell...
