My birth story
This is my story. We got married when I was 33 and DH 34 and decided to wait a year and then start a family. After 18 months of TTC nothing happened and my gyne referred us to a fertility clinic. They could find nothing wrong with me, but DH SA showed that his sperm morphology was low (only 5%). Because of my age, I was already 36 then, FS said we should start by trying IUI immediately. First IUI was BNP, the 2nd BFP which ended in a miscarriage on 1 Des 2006 when I had an D&C. We were heartbroken. Next IUI was done of 5 Feb 2007 and on 16 Feb the bloodtest confirmed BFP again. I was so nervous, remembering the previous scan when there was no heartbeat. This time it was there and FS said I was nearly 7 weeks preggies and 2 weeks later we could see little arms and legs moving. DH was totally stunned.
Went back to my gyne at 12 weeks and everything still looked ok. At 17 weeks the dr said she was 100% sure it is a boy. I just know from the beginning, but poor DH really wanted a girl. At 28 weeks gyne said she was not happy with my amniotic fluid, it was not as much as it had to be. I had to take it easy and try to catch some extra naps over weekends. At 31 weeks the amniotic fluid was a little bit less and she said nothing to worry about yet. Then at 34 weeks, she take just one look at the scan and took out her little sick leave pad. I just sit there and stared at the doc. Then she said, you are on bedrest from today till baby is born. You do absolutely nothing, no housework, cooking, washing, you just stay in bed and come and see me every Monday. This was 17 Sept. DH just look at me and said do you want this baby or not? And that sorted things out for me. Actually went in to work the next day, but was back at home and in bed by 11. It was not fun and DH bought takeaways nearly every night. The day for C-section was set for 19 October at 38.5 weeks. Every Monday the gyne said amniotic fluid was still ok, baby was doing fine and she was hoping it would get to 3 kg.
So the morning of 19 October arrived and we had to be at the hospital at 6. I was the 2nd C-section of the day. I asked my SIL to go with my to teathre, because DH could't. He passes out when he saw needles and blood. The spinal worked like a charm and it did hurt just a little bit. I had an allergic reaction to the meds and start itching. Actually funny, because my arms was itching but I could not scratch. Then my blood pressure fall so low that I thought I was going to passed out. These things was sorted out quickly. It felt like ages before our LB was born at 08h50, weighing 3.285, 50 cm tall with an Apgar score of 9/10. He was the beautiful thing I ever saw and had head full of black hair. DH waited outside the theathre and went with baby back to the maternity ward. I stayed in the recovery room for 30 min and was taken back to my room to find DH sitting with his son in his arms. So sweet. I had a easy recovery from the c-section and we went home on the Monday. Actually enjoyed my stay in hospital very much. On the Sunday evening my milk come in and I had the baby blues and was crying my heart out. My LB find it difficult to latch and it sometimes felt like a mission to breastfed him. At 6 weeks the paed was not happy with his weight and I decide to switch to formula. He pick up weight at rapid pace and double his birth weight at 3 months. Suddenly we had a very happy baby which started tot sleep through at 8 weeks. He is now 1 year and 8 months old and we enjoys him so much. DH said to me the other day it is the best thing ever happened to him and he is so glad that I insisted that we went to the fertility clinic.
