our promise from God: Jayden Eli
On Tuesday the 27th january I went to my gynae for the usual scan and checkup. He said baby is looking healthy and wanted to check the lungs –because I was so anxious, he said he can do the c-section earlier if baby’s lungs are ready. So he did the amnio… with that long needle.. eeekkkk. But that afternoon I called for the results and the lungs weren’t yet ready.
Friday morning, the 30th Jan, I woke up and was in a panic as I was getting mild contractions and didn’t feel baby move much. Went to doctor early and he sent me home saying its only “Braxton hicks” and not to worry.
So I went home to rest and really took it very easy the rest of the day. I was still not feeling content though, I was a little nervous cos tummy kept getting hard and still baby not moving a lot.
Friday night was lying on the couch watching tv then at about 11:20pm told dh that I’m going to bed. I got into bed and then it happened…my waters broke, felt like I’d wet my pants. I thought maybe it was baby pushed on my bladder, but when I went to the loo, I realized that it was not, i already had a bit of a pinkish show and told DH we have to go to the hospital straight away. And only to find out Dh had no petrol in the car!!! We had to stop at the petrol station first, lol.. dh was telling them to hurry cos his wife is in labor it was so funny actually, and they still wanted to wash the wind screen.
When we got to the hospital they put me on the monitor and I was relieved to hear baby’s heartbeat . they then told me it was my waters that had broken and I was getting regular contractions. Funny enough it wasn’t painful. The nurse did an internal examination and said that I wouldn’t be able to give natural birth. She called the gynae and they arranged to do the c-section the next morning (so much for an emergency c-section). So I just waited for the hours to pass. They gave me a drip to stop the contractions but I was allergic to that and they had to take it off cos I couldn’t breathe. They gave me pills instead which seemed to have done the job.
The sisters asked me why I was so anxious, my pulse was sky high. I told them that I lost my first baby and I was just scared, they were so nice to me and encouraged me.
Went into theater just before 8am on Saturday morning (jan 31st). they only then asked me if I want an anesetic or a spinal. I decided to go for the spinal. Dh was with me in theater, and it wasn’t that bad. It was so fast and 8:06 Jayden came out screaming, the sound I had been waiting for… they brought him to me quickly so I could give him a kiss, he was very blue though. But I cried just to see that he was ok!!! And weiging a healthy 3.25 kgs. And then they took him while I got stitched up. My body then went into shock – I was shaking for a good 30 minutes.. Jayden had a bit of fluid they had to get off his lungs and spent about 1 to 2 hours in an incubator but apart from that he was 100% fine !praise God! Breastfeeding went well and I am still breastfeeding 5 months later.
It all happened so fast and I was so not prepared, but that’s ok.
We named him Jayden Eli, he is such a blessing. and he trully was a promise given to us from God.
