My babies are here
Hi everyone, I'm glad to see everybody is doing well!
I also posted in the preggo lounge, thought I would just update you guys also. My babies was born on the 9th of July. I was 33 weeks pregnant. I went into labour, and had very high blood pressure and protein in my urine. The doc was worried about the one baby that wasn't developing to good. He decided to rather deliver them. They were born via c-section 6 o clock the evening. Bjorn weighed 2,17kg and Carmen only 1,03kg. I was so shocked when the doc showed her to me, I couldn't even see her, she was so small I could only see the towel.
They are both still in NICU. Bjorn must just learn to suck now, but he is so lazy the little guy. Carmen still weigh just 1kg, but other than being so small she is doing fine and is a real fighter. She is getting the little breastmilk I have at the moment. My milk is so little, wish there was enough for both of them, but Bjorn are doing fine on the formula.
Well that is my update, I can't wait for them to come home so that we can have a normal household again. Some days are really hard for me.

Re: My babies are here
Congratulations on your twins.
It is hard not bringing them home and all the guilt that goes with it. But stay strong they are getting great care. Also lots of love I watched the nurses with mine and they get quite attached. In the meantime don't feel guilty about getting as much sleep as you can. Cause once they are home twins are tough and you need to be as healed as possible.

Congrats Eliane!!!
Let your pead of gynea give you a script for eglynol, help with milk production and works wonderful, the genetic one is even more suficient.
It is not nice at all to have them in NICU - Which hospital are they in?
I am thinking of you and good luck hun. Pls remember we are here for you if you need to talk or anything else. It is not nice to have your babies in NICU!!

Hi Elaine
Congrats on the birth of your twins. I had a very similar situation to you. My gynae decided to deliver my twins at 34 weeks as he was worried about the development of the little girl. My son weighed 2.32kg but my daughter only 1.4kg. Michael was in NICU for 6 days, but Grace was in for 3 weeks - just to get her weight up really - all else was fine. Did your babies need ventilation at all?
My babies our now nearly 4 months old and Grace - although still tiny, is a beautiful little girl and I cannot believe how far she has come when I compare pics of when she was born and now.
Good luck - it's hard at the moment but you will get through it and before you know it you will have both babies home.
Love

Re: My babies are here
Hi there
Congrats on your babies! Glad to hear they are doing well, although we all know how hard it is for you. I hope little Carmen picks up weight and that Bjorn learns to suck ASAP. We would love to hear how they are doing. Elaine watch out for depression ok? NICu is not a place for sissies. Mine were in for 3 weeks, and although every day felt like a year, now that they are 6 months old, it feels like a lifetime ago. Hang in there and lots of good luck! xoxo

Hi Elaine
Congrats.
I know that you will be very worried and anxious but they will be fine. Girls are such strong fighters. I was so anxious, worried and depressed but when they learnt to suck (started drinking the Sunday and by Thursday they were ready to go home).
Now, they gulp those bottles down. Erin initially weighed 1.880kg and by the time she went home, she weighed 2.140kg taking into account they lose weight in the first few days. She now weighs 2.4kg and drinks like there is no tomorrow. I cannot believe that they are the same to babies.
It is very difficult in the first few days and I cried alot. I was very worried that something would happen to them.
You are not alone.
Congrats.

Re: My babies are here
Thank you everybody for your kind words. I must say I am feeling a bit depressed, and helpless at the moment.
Melanie I am drinking the eglynol pills at the moment, just wish they would kick in now. They are in Pretoria East hospital and they are getting absolutely brilliant care.
I will keep you guys updated, Bjorn started sucking his bottle a little today,so looks like he is really trying. Thanks again for all the support

Re: My babies are here
Ja it is a wonderful hospital and the nurses in NICU is such a wonderful bunch of people. Just be patient with the sucking, they are still small. Mine drank all 8 bottle exactly on 36 weeks and the next day they came home, but beleive me it is not nice to sit and wait for them to suck good enough for the pead.
I don't know what dummies you are using but the latex dummies work better for the prem babies than the normal silicon one. I gave mine the silicon nuk ones but they are now still not very fond of the dummy, the one will such it much more than her sister and now that they are a bit bigger you can't fool them with a dummy anymore!!
Good luck hun!
