My angel's arrival

Post by Jonet on Fri 7 Aug 2009 - 17:01

I always thought that I will have the perfect birthing experience.......for me "perfect" was to be at home, waters breaking, rushing to hospital, having no drugs and a vaginal delivery.
Well, as I am a control freak, the Lord is trying to teach me how to leave things in His hands so......
We had the first wiff of a C-section when our then "baba zonder naam" refused to turn at 37 weeks. Much to everyone's surprise (and my relief) she turned at 37 weeks and 4 days. Jay for vaginal delivery.
Then apparently she gone through a magnificant growth spurt and at 39 weeks, 5 days she measured over 4kg's. As she hasn't engaged (or even started to) the gynae was worried that this was an indication that she was to big for me to deliver. As according to the hospitals stats - 60% of inductions where the baby is big end in emergency C-sections, we made the dreaded decision to have a planned C-section.

So off we went to hospital (same day as gynae visit) to have our little girl.
They came to put in my drip and catheter - and after a rather painful drip insertion (my arteries did not want to play along and the nurse was a bit nervous to), I panicked and requested the catheter to be inserted in theater - luckily they agreed!!! I would advise anyone to request that the catheter be done in theater!!!!

Hubby left me just before I was wheeled into theater to dress in his sexy theater clothes!!

In theater they administered local pain relief (which stung a bit) at the site where the spinal was to be done. The spinal was done (felt something like a hard pressure in my back), and it worked first time. Before they started the C-section my blood pressure fell, but the doc was on top of it immediately.
Ag sweet - my hubby held my hand the whole time!!

At 17:26 our little girl was born - I could only touch her foot before she was handed to the pead. My only concern after that was that hubby went with her (so that they couldn't switch my beautiful girl around).

After that I felt quite alone as the stitching up took around 20 minutes and then I was wheeled to recovery. I got to see my 2 angels (hubby and LO) only in my room.

Her stats:
3.5kg's (so I advised the gynae to get a new sonar machine)
51cm's tall
36cm head
Apgars 9/10 and 10/10

And that's my story.....

Glad the little is ok though, even if it didn't go as you have thought.
By the way our stories are almost similar and so are our babies stats.

So glad all worked out well in the end, sorry you didn't get your vaginal, but least your precious "cargo" was delivered safe.

Some of these gynaes and the measurements!! At 34 weeks Nicole supposedly weighed 2.6kg, and at delivery (35w5d) she weighed 3.11kg, so someone wasn't measuring right...

Anyhow, I'm glad she's safe. A c-section isn't ideal, but at least that's all behind you now!
