Interaction of Twins

Post by Wendy on Mon 7 Sep 2009 - 19:03

Hi Ladies

Was just wondering how your twins interact with one another? Mine are 5 months old and to be honest I don't think they're that aware of each other! I do lie them together on their do-nut or on their activity gym but I'm not sure what else to do with them to encourage interaction. They don't sleep in the same cot (and never have done) - Michael sleeps spreadeagled out with arms outstretched and is so much bigger than Grace I am worried he'll knock her out! With Michael coming home almost immediately and Grace being in NICU for nearly a month I kind of got Michael into his own routine. On occasion I have sat with both of them propped up between my legs and they've played with each others hands and seemed interested - but that's about all. You always hear about this wonderful bond that twins share, but so far I've yet to see it! Perhaps when they can sit and play together it will improve. Interested to hear your experiences.

Hi Wendy
Mine are getting more and more aware of each other, watching each other and smiling. Apparently it is only in the second half of the first year that they really become much aware of the other one. On occasion Olivia has laughed at Rachel since they started rolling at about 5.5 months - apparently she finds her sister's antics hilarious. Poor Rachel is very serious about her rolling, and Olivia laughs at her! Funny little things.

Hi Wendy

We hold the boys so they can see each other and sometimes it is so cute one smiles st the other. If they are both having a good day then the other smiles back but often it is a concentrating frown as they stare at each other.

I am starting to run into a little trouble my one boy is starting to get jealous of his brother. When I have them alone and I pick his brother up and not him he starts moaning. And if I try hold them together unless they are both in a good mood they both cry. And this is at 4.5 months what am I going to do when they are a little older but still to young to understand?

My twins are aware of each other and interact a lot. They will be 8 months tommorrow and can sit on their own. When sitting next to each other they look at each other, smile and even hold hands, (they look like grandma and grandpa when holding hands Laughing ) , they even kiss each other. Its really funny when you watching them, they seem to be close. Then they pull each other's bibs, dummy's, and hair, (even then i think they still think its part of play)then you'll hear a scream which means its time to sit them apart. Otherwise they get on very well, they share their toys with no problems.

Wendy mine is now 6months old and it is only the last 2 weeks that they will smile at each other, stare at each other and touching, holding hands, play with the same blanket or "speogdoek", so cute. Just keep putting them next to each other in play time and they will start notice each other.

I sometimes also feel that they dont even know or care about their sibling. Mine sleep together but if I seperate them (Erin happy on her own, Wade does not like being on his own) they dont seem to care.

I also let them lie next to each other really close and they will reach out and touch each other.

Thanks so much for all your feedback. They will be 6 months in a few weeks time and it sounds like this is when they start to become more aware so I'm really looking forward to that. They are at such a cute stage now though - so much more responsive to us. On Saturday Grace rolled over for the very first time and I was beside myself with excitement. I always thought it would be Michael who did all these types of things first but our little Grace - who weighs 2kg less than her brother - surprised us and was obviously just quietly working away at things! Just goes to show - girls are real little fighters!

Well done Grace, I also experience that Wendy, thought Montinique will do it first - she is the bigger one of the two and stronger but looks like the small one comes through and surprises up.

With the one in hospital now, I can't believe how they know the other one is not there.
